こうして、きみがそのへんを歩き回ったり、雨になるのかなぁと空を見上げてみたりしていると、ウィニー・ザ・プーはこんな歌をうたいました：

雲は　うきうき　青い空
いつも　うたうよ　高らかに

雲は　うきうき　青い空
小さい雲は　得意げさ

So, while you walked up and down and wondered if it would rain, Winnie-the-Pooh sang this song:

How sweet to be a Cloud
Floating in the Blue!
Every little cloud
Always sings aloud.

To be a little cloud.

ミツバチたちは、相変わらず、あやしんだ様子でブンブン・ブンブン言っていました。それどころか、何匹かは巣をぬけ出して、2番をうたいだした雲の周りをぐる〜っと飛びまわり、その一匹なんか、雲の鼻先にちょんと止まって、また飛んでいったのです。

The bees were still buzzing as suspiciously as ever. Some of them, indeed, left their nests and flew all round the cloud as it began the second verse of this song, and one bee sat down on the nose of the cloud for a moment, and then got up again.

ここでの wouldは時制の一致によるもので、過去から見た未来を表す。

How sweet to be a Cloud

構文的には ‘How sweet it is to be a cloud.’のように補って考える。Itは to be a cloudを指す形式主語で、「雲である／雲になることは、どれだけ気持ちいいことだろう！」という感嘆文。

この歌の ‘to be’は、「雲である」という状態とも、「雲になる」という変化 (= becomeの意)とも解釈できる。もっとも後者の意味であれば「元々は雲ではない」ことが含意されるため、ウソつき程よく喋るという形になり逆効果になるはずだが、このような歌を作ってミツバチを信じ込ませようとするところに Poohらしさが現れていると言えるだろう。
