GOOD TASTE’S　〜いい味が所有する〜

Spotted a minor mistake (actually, there are more!) on a sign of a bar. 🍸

First, if they meant “tastes” as a plural form of “taste” (as in what someone likes or prefers, or the ability to make choices that people think are good quality; similar to “sense”), the term here should be in singular form, not plural.

If they used the plural form, it should be written as “tastes” not “taste’s”. The “apostrophe s” makes this a possessive ’s, indicating that something belongs to “taste”.

(Nothing follows “taste’s”, so we believe this is an error.)

If they meant “taste” as in “taste (flavor) of the food and drinks that they serve”, we suggest that they go with “Good food and drinks”.

So many mysteries in one sign!


カフェバーの店頭で、ちょっとしたまちがいを発見です！

“GOOD TASTE’S” を直訳すると、「よい味の（味が所有する〇〇）」ですが、その〇〇の部分がないため、不完全な文章になっています。💦

ここで、taste の意味についてご紹介します！

taste には、2通りの意味合いがあるからです☺️

① good taste = 「美味しい」のケース

「このお店には味のよい（美味しい）お食事や飲み物がある」の意味で「味 = taste」を使っているのかもしれません。

ただし、この場合複数形は使いません…。

② good taste = 「よいセンス・テイスト」のケース

taste は、日本語の「テイスト」と同じように「センス」「趣味」「美的感覚」の意味があるため、音楽や店内の雰囲気について「よいテイスト」という意味で使っているのかもしれません。

ただし、「’s」の名詞の所有格がついているため、「よいテイストの（テイストが所有する〇〇）」という、不完全で意味が釈然としない文章になってしまいます。

そこで、両パターンの修正方法をご提案いたします！
