I am now staying a city in northern Germany, Kiel for a business trip.
It's about one hour and a half from Hamburg to Kiel by train or bus in north.

For many people Kiel may be a unfamiliar city , but if you had taken a world history class, you may have learned "Kiel mutiny", which triggered German revolution in November 1918 and led to the end of WWⅠ.

Now that I stay in Kiel of July, I am re-convinced that sunshine is really special to people living here in north.

Yesterday, when I came to office, my colleagues told me "It's a perfect day, and we should go to the beach right now!!", putting aside the tasks we had to do.

It's dry here in summer while is's so humid and hot in Japan, I feel the sunshine is very strong and the sky is clear and high.

The central station of Kiel, where I am staying nearby is right next to the bay of Kiel so I come to feel the sea pretty close.

Both the sky and the seas how a beautiful blue, in a sunny day and I feel I  am lucky to have a chance to stay here at this moment.

I walk to the office for 30 minutes along the bay every morning and it is very comfortable in summer. (In winter it's so cold and windy...)

Now around the summer solstice the sunset is late 9 pm so it seems strange to me like the light of evening time continuing so long. on the way to hotel after work, I saw many people enjoying dinner outside of restaurants and bars. They do not care about getting them tanned or rather they are willingly expose themselves to the sun and enjoying sunshine as much as possible in a short summer.

After the summer solstice, the day time is getting shorter and shorter and it will be dark until 10 in the morning and get back to the night time after 16:00.

when I came here last February, it was cloudy and dark all the week and understood that the feeling would be not so good.

Then I came to understand why higher taxes are put on alcohols in northern countries. Without it we would be easily inclined to drink a lot at home during  long and cold nights.

I feel affection toward the people who can't stop enjoying the sunshine in summer. That's human nature.
