万生集（生きる目的・理由・コツ）61 ～Manseishu／collection of meaning and knack of life～

食べることはもちろん楽しいことだが、その前段の行為の体験が流れとなって一本化したとき、「食」の本当の意味が分かってくる。他者の死とみずからの生だ。死は他者であったとしても、生命連鎖でみずからに連なる厳粛な行為で、生死は生態系の中では一本のものだといえる。食べものへの感謝が死生観の原点にあればこそ、生きていることの意味もわかろうというものだ。

It is of course fun to eat but we understand the true meaning of 'food' when the experience of the action in the previous stage becomes a flow and is unified. They are the death of others and my own. Even if the death is others, it could be said that it is life chain, serious action connecting to myself and life and death are one thing in the ecosystem. If the gratitude for food is the origin of our view of life and death, we should understand the meaning of living.
