BOOK REVIEW#7 "King Lear", by William Shakespeare, translated by Tetsuo Anzai, Kobunsha

King Lear is the most famous tragedy written by William Shakespeare. Its plot is even used by a famous Japanese film director, Akira Kurosawa, for his movie, "Ran".

This is a very traditional, ethical, and universal lesson for being a human. Greedy desire and evil conspiracy shall always return back to the one who has or does them. In this story, unfortunately even to the tragedy occurs to the princess with cordial heart and loyalty to her father. What a pity...

Under the modern society, we are exposed to the competitive race. we tend to dismiss what is exactly happiness for our life, then commit a crucial mistakes, and hurt or deceive others for our immediate but superficial benefits.

“Have more than thou showest,(見せびらかすより多くを貯え)
Speak less than thou knowest,(知っているより少なく話し)
Lend less than thou owest”(持っている割に少しだけ貸す)

– Fool (Act I, Scene IV)

This is the lesson from a crazy clown called "Fool" to the king. Ironically only the Fool, who is out of the "society", can see things objectively and correctly. King Lear could be a good opportunity for you to review your priority in your life.
