August 9, 2024: Heat, Cicadas （酷暑、蝉）

The heat is still hitting and seems not to cease soon. But I have recently felt and seen something telling some change in the heat. It always starts with the cicadas. They always come around my flat to tell me of the change. This year also saw them come here to tell me of the change. My flat is on the middle floor of an apartment. The other day, I saw two of them in the corridor. One of them was in good shape with chirping, and it flew away when I began to walk. But the other was still on the corridor, almost dying. So, I expected some change in the heat. Then, I began to feel the shift in the wind. It was not as warm and wet as before. Until then, it had been so warm and wet  that it was hard for me to live in the wind. It is still hot with temperatures around 32 degrees in the morning. But the change in the wind is making me a little more comfortable. My sweat has also changed, and it is now less sticky.
The latest weather report says that the heat will continue for a while. I am not against it. But I think that at least the wind will not be as warm and wet as it was in July. In other words, the wind tells me that autumn is just around the corner. I will probably be able to find more change in the heat around the end of the week-long summer holidays in mid-August. I would be able to enjoy a more comfortable life, just hanging in there a little longer.
I am grateful that the cicadas gave me the prior notice, which has motivated me to survive the heat.

　酷暑はまだ続いており、すぐには止みそうにありません。でも、最近、この暑さに何か変化を告げるものを感じ、目にしました。それは、いつも蝉で始まります。毎年、ボクのマンションの周辺にやってきて、その変化を告げてくれるのです。そして、今年もまた、その変化を告げにやってきくれました。ボクの家はマンションの中層階にあります。先日、その外廊下で蝉を2匹見かけました。一匹は元気にミンミンと鳴いていて、ボクが歩き出すと、飛んでいってしまいました。もう1匹は外廊下に残っていましたが、死にそうでした。これを見て、酷暑も変わるのではと期待しました。すると、風に変化を感じました。以前のような暖かさや湿気がなくなりました。それまでは、暮らすのが辛いほど風が暖かくじめじめとしていました。午前中の気温は32度前後で、まだまだ暑いです。でも、風が変わったことですこし快適に過ごせるようになりました。汗も変わり、ベタベタしなくなりました。
　最新の天気予報によれば、この暑さはしばらく続くらしいです。この予報に反対はしません。でも、少なくとも7月のような温かくてじめじめした風は、もう来ないとおもいます。つまり、秋がすぐそこまで来ている事の証です。おそらく、8月中旬の1週間の夏休みが終わる頃には、もっと暑さも変わっていると思います。もう少し我慢すれば、より快適な生活を楽しめます。
