January 28, 2023: Bridges （橋）
I have three bridges that have really impressed me. One is the Tokyo Gate Bridge in Japan. It spans the waters of Tokyo Bay. It is also nicknamed the Dinosaur Bridge because it has trusses that look like dinosaurs. Standing in the middle of the bridge, I could see wonderful views. On the right side, I could see the whole landscape of the Odaiba area. From the left side, it gave me a grandstand view of the open sea which leads to the Pacific Ocean. It is the best I have ever seen in Japan.
Another one is the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, UK. It was when I was driving around Bristol on holiday that I found the bridge. It looked so beautiful that I was inclined to cross the bridge by car. So I climbed up to the bridge and crossed the bridge. It was one of the best memories of my holiday in the UK.
The last one is the George Washington Bridge in the United States. It spans between Manhattan and New Jersey. It was on my first business trip to the country that I saw and crossed the bridge for the first time. When I landed in Manhattan for the first time, I was attracted by the skyscrapers and the atmosphere and also surprised to see that everything was big and powerful, not only buildings but also food. The MacDonald's Coke was much bigger than in Japan. The biggest one was something I had never seen in Japan and it was too big to finish it. Among them was the George Washington Bridge which I thought was like the symbol of big and powerful things. It was very big and looked very sturdy, and was also busy with a lot of vehicles. Since then, I felt that I had come to America, the country in which everything is big and powerful, whenever I crossed the bridge.
すごく印象に残っている橋が 3 つあります。 一つは東京ゲートブリッジです。 東京湾に広がる橋です。その橋のトラス構造が恐竜のように見えることから「恐竜橋」とも呼ばれています。 橋の真ん中に立っていると、素晴らしい景色が見えます。 右手にはお台場の全景が見えます。 そして、左手には、太平洋に続く大海原の絶景を眺めることができます。今まで日本で見た中で最高の橋です。
もう 1 つは、イギリスのブリストルにあるクリフトン吊り橋です。 この橋を見つけたのは、休日にブリストルの周りを車で走っていたときでした。 とてもきれいだったので、車で橋を渡りたくなり、橋にかけ登って渡りました。 イギリスでの休暇の最高の思い出の一つでした。
そして最後はアメリカのジョージ・ワシントン・ブリッジです。 マンハッタンとニュージャージーの間にまたがる橋です。 この橋を初めて渡ったのは、米国を初めて訪れた時でした。 初めてマンハッタンに降り立ったとき、高層ビルや雰囲気に魅了されました。建物だけでなく食べ物も含めて何もかもが大きいことに驚きました。 マクドナルドのコーラは日本よりずっと大きかったです。 一番大きなものは日本では見たことのないサイズでした。大きすぎて飲みきれませんでした。 その中で、ジョージ・ワシントン・ブリッジは、大きなものの象徴のように思えました。 この橋は、非常に大きくて頑丈そうです。また、多くの車がいつも行き来しています。 それ以来、橋を渡るたびに、すべてが大きい国、アメリカに来たと実感したものです。
