June 19, 2023: Colombia, South America (1)（南米のコロンビア(1)）
It has been a long time since I last heard news about Colombia in South America. I just heard the news that that four children had been rescued safely from the Amazon jungle in Colombia. They had been taking a small plane with their parents to come back their home. But the plane suddenly crashed, and their parents died instantly. On the other hand, the four children were lucky enough to survive. They had survived forty days in the jungle and were found by a Colombian rescue team. According to the news, the skills they had learned earlier helped them to survive. Anyway, I am very happy to see that they were found safe and sound.
It reminded me that I had been to the country once on business. It was the first time I had set foot on the South American soil. At that time, I flew from Paris, France to the country’s capital, Bogota. It was an eleven-hour flight, which is almost the same as those from Europe to Japan. I remember being nervous at the passport control. It had an unfamiliar atmosphere that I had never experienced before. I got, and replied to, several questions in English and was allowed to enter.
南米のコロンビアのニュースは久しぶりです。4人の子供が同国のアマゾンジャングルから無事救出されたというニュースです。４人は、両親と家に帰るため、小型飛行機に乗っていました。その時、突然、飛行機が墜落し、両親は即死でした。でも、この４人は幸いにも、助かりました。そして、ジャングルで40日間も生き延び、同国の救助隊が無事発見されました。ニュースによると、幼い頃に学んだスキルにお陰で生き延びられたそうです。何はともあれ、無事でよかったです。
このニュースで、コロンビアに一度だけ出張したことを思い出しました。これが、ボクが初めて南米の地を踏んだ時でした。その時は、フランスのパリからエールフランス航空の便でコロンビアの首都ボゴタに入りました。パリからボゴタまでは約11時間のフライトで、欧州と日本間の飛行時間とほぼ同じでした。入国審査では緊張したのを覚えています。審査場の雰囲気がそれまで経験したことのない雰囲気だったのです。英語でいくつかの質問に受け答えしたら、入国できました。
