May 31, 2024: Disposing of My Books （本の処分）

I am now busy disposing of the books on my shelves. A week ago, I began to sell them to secondhand bookshops. I do not know how many books I have on the shelves. But when I was staring at them, it seemed to me that they were no longer necessary for me. Some of them, the novels by Ryotaro Shiba, were kept there for thirty years, but I have never opened them. So do most of the others. So, I decided to sell them to secondhand bookshops. First, I sold English books and books about laws. I packed them in a box and asked a bookshop to pick them up. And I passed it to a delivery service the following day. I am now waiting for how much the books will be bought. In any case, I am going to sell them no matter how much they are. I am also now packing other books in a new box to sell them to another bookshop. Almost all of them are business books, so I have chosen another bookshop that seems to buy them at a better price.
I am going to get rid of at least two-thirds of my books in a month. I am doing this not only to get rid of unnecessary books but also to get a fresh start. I am also looking for anything that seems to be unnecessary to me and to help me get a fresh start.

　今、本棚の本の処分に追われています。1週間前から中古本屋さんに売り始めました。本棚に何冊の本があるのかは知りません。でも、眺めていると、もはや自分には必要ないものだと思えてきたのです。中には司馬遼太郎さんの小説など、30年もそこに置いてあるのに一度も開いたことがないものもあります。他のほとんどもそうです。そこで、中古本屋さんに売ることにしました。まず、英語の本や法律関係の本を売りました。中古本屋さんに引き取ってもらうために、箱に詰め、翌日に宅配業者に手渡しました。あとは、いくらで買い取ってもらえるかです。いずれにせよ、いくらであろうもと売るつもりです。今、他の本も別の中古本屋さんに売ろうと新しい箱に詰めています。ほとんどがビジネス書なので、より高く買い取ってくれそうな別の本屋さんを選びました。
　１ヶ月で少なくとも3分の2を処分するつもりです。不要な本を処分するだけでなく、心機一転するためでもあります。また、自分にとって不要と思われるもので、心機一転するのに役立ちそうなものを探しています。
