いよいよ今年も全国的に梅雨入り。
ジメジメして気が滅入る時期になってきましたね。
雨といえば、イギリスの天気。
ということで、今日は雨にまつわるイギリス英語フレーズをご紹介します。

Common British rainy phrases

1.Chucking down

Meaning:　Heavy rain
Example:　It's chucking it down outside, put a wellies on.

2.Bucketing down

Meaning:　Heavy rain
Example:　I was going to go shopping to supermarket. But it was bucketing 　　　　　down, so I was staying at home.

3.pouring with rain

Meaning:　Heavy rain
Example:　We had to cancel the picnic because it was pouring with rain.

4.spitting 

Meaning:　It's starting to rain lightly
Example:　It’s only spitting, no need for an umbrella yet.

5.A bit of a downpour

Meaning:　A sudden, heavy rain
Example:　We had a bit of a downpour this afternoon.

6.It's drizzling

Meaning:　Light rain
Example:　It's just drizzling, so we can still go for a walk.

Humoras British rainy phrases

1.Cats and Dogs

Meaning:　Heavy rain
Example:　Better stay inside, it's raining cats and dogs out there.

2.April showers bring May flowers

Meaning:　It's often used to find a positive thing
Example:
　 A;This project has so many setbacks.
　 B;True, but remember, April showers bring May flowers. Once we get 　　through this, the results will be worth it.

3.A typical British weather

Meaning:　Refers humorously to the frequent rain during the British summer.
Example:　Pack a raincoat, it's a typical British summer out there.

4.A fine Scottish mist

Meaning:　Very light rain or drizzle, often used humorously
Example:　It's not raining heavily, just a fine Scottish mist, so we don't need 　　　　　umbrellas.
