What is Shavasana of Ashtanga Yoga

At Ashtanga Yoga, after practice, you rest on your back like this.
Perhaps other yogas will lie on their backs and rest after practice.

However, there is only one difference.
In other yogas, this condition is called "Shavasana" and is considered as one of the asanas (poses).

By the way, Shava of Shava Asana means "corpse".
That is, a pose, lying on the floor like a corpse.

This pose has the effect of removing fatigue and calming the mind.
It is also a good pose to get rid of nerve tension caused by stress.

My eyes close, but I don't sleep (laughs)

In Ashtanga Yoga, this condition is not called Shavasana. I do not catch it.
This is called a "rest pose". Simply, I'm just resting. (laughs)

Completely relax and rest single-mindedly.
When you take as much time as possible, it is better to recover from fatigue, your mind will calm down more, and you can work invigoratingly afterwards.

Guruji (Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, founder of Ashtanga Yoga).
I've heard that it was often said that "Shavasana is an advanced pose, and what you are doing is rest, happy pose".

Certainly, when I hear from people and see them in books, they agree on the most difficult poses to train.
It's like a corpse while you're alive (laughs)

About 14 years ago, when I started ashtanga yoga, I was still taught “Shavasana”.
From that time on, some people were already taught “rest pose”.
I think “rest pose” is pervading now.
Breathing was also called Ujjayi breathing before. Now, it is no longer so.
