【Native English Diary】12日目～A rainy birthday in Nippori

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you're having a good week. The other day was my boyfriend Kazuki's birthday, and we explored some interesting spots in Nippori.

Day 12

Hey everybody! So this past weekend was my boyfriend Kazuki's birthday!

 I think I get more excited about other people's birthdays than my own… I always feel happy when I can spend time with someone on their birthday. 

Unfortunately, Kazuki's birthday wasn't exactly going as planned this year. 
Although he really wanted to visit Sarujima Island, it was raining the entire day! I can't believe our luck.

Well, it can't be helped. We didn't have anything planned for the day, so we decided to head to Nippori and wing it. (wing it = 準備しないで適当にやってのける)

Luckily, Nippori is one of our favorite spots in Tokyo, and we had a lot of options for things to do. 
We made our way to the area with our umbrellas. We decided to try the cafe that we went to on our second date.

But, it looks like lots of people had the same idea, because there was over a 40-minute wait!
Time to try option two…

For option two, we headed to a delicious curry place that we knew about. (to head to = 向かう)
But on the way, we stumbled on a Turkish restaurant that Kazuki knew and loved. And there was no wait!

It was my first time at this restaurant and it was really exciting. Everyone eats on the floor on beautiful Turkish rugs. The ceiling is covered in Turkish lamps that are sold in the shop. 

But the best part was, of course, the food! We had a set lunch for only 660 yen. We couldn't even believe it! 

After leaving the restaurant, it was raining harder, so we found a unique cafe that was built from an old bathhouse. 
We got a private room in the basement, which is where they used to heat the bath. 

It was so interesting and unique, but also a little bit creepy…

Afterwards we did some shopping in Ueno and headed home. We were a bit too tired to go to a restaurant, so we had Kazuki's favorite food at home, unagi! 😊

And of course, what's a birthday without cake? 🎂
