#234【English】Morning Talk Holiday Cookies

音声はこちらから

Good morning everyone, it’s Wednesday, December 23rd and it’s time for Amber’s morning English talk!

It’s two degrees Celsius in Tokyo this morning with bright and clear skies. There is a high of 14 degrees this afternoon.

There’s only two more days before Christmas so I’d like to talk about cookies today! In the United States there is often a tradition of making and baking a large variety of sweets during the holiday season. The most popular baking during this time is of cookies and chocolate.

In japan it’s more popular to make a cake for Christmas but in the U.S. we tend to favor cookies. In fact, Instagram collected data from across the US to make a cookie map of the U.S. last week, showing which cookies were popular for each state.

I was surprised to learn that peanut butter and sugar cookies were the most popular cookies in the U.S. during the holiday season. Ten states preferred peanut butter cookies, including my own, and another 10 preferred sugar cookies. After that, shortbread was popular in 8 states, with gingerbread being enjoyed in 7 states. Next are crinkle cookies being preferred by 6 states, with snickerdoodle and oatmeal cookies ranking number one in 4 states equally. Lastly, chocolate chip was the most popular in only one state for the Christmas season.

I’ll be posting the link to this cookie map on today’s morning talk description, so if you’d like to take a look it should be easily available!

But I’d like to end today’s talk with a question:
Do you prefer cake or cookies for the Christmas season?
