オランダでバレエのレッスン

前回の記事から間が空いてしまい、かれんのバレエ学校の一次オーディションの結果を引っ張ってしまいました！オーディションの翌日に、先生から電話がかかって来ました。結果はなんと合格。まだファイナルオーディションがあるので、入学が決まったわけではありませんが、オランダに引越してわずか1週間後に嬉しい知らせが届いて幸先が良い♪がんばってくれたかれんにも感謝です。

喜んでいる暇もなく、翌週からすぐにファイナルオーディション準備コースのレッスンがスタートしました。ファイナルオーディションが行われる4月末までの間、週２回、アムステルダムのバレエ学校に通わねばなりません！我が家からは自転車⇒鉄道⇒メトロで片道1時間くらいかかります・・・。レッスンスケジュールは下記のような感じで、クラシックとワールドダンスです。ワールドダンスって何？と思ったのですが、キャラクテール(よくバレエの舞台で、本筋と関係なくいろんな国の踊りが披露されるシーンがあります。例えば白鳥の湖でもスペインの踊り、ナポリの踊り、チャルダッシュというハンガリーの踊り等がありますね。)みたいなもののようです。

ということで、ここからはファイナルオーディション準備コースについてお伝えしたいと思います！

スケジュール

・水曜 16:30-18:15 クラシックバレエ
・土曜  09:45-11:00 ワールドダンス、11:15-12:30 クラシックバレエ
クラシック全5回、ワールドダンス全2回で、費用は115ユーロ(約19,000円)。

私は正直受かると思っていなかったので、この名門校で数週間レッスンを受けられるというだけでワクワクしてしまいましたよ！

レッスン時の服装

レオタード、バレエシューズとお団子ヘアは日本と同じなのですが、なんとタイツを履かないんです。実はオーディションの時も、「バレエソックス」着用、タイツNGと書かれていて、バレエソックスって何？って感じだったのですが、ソックス持っていなかったので裸足にバレエシューズで受けました。調べたところこれ↓が正解でした。

買いに行こうと思ったのですが、住んでいる街にはバレエショップが1軒しかなく、しかもイースター休暇に入ってしまっていて初回レッスンまでに調達できませんでした。仕方なく裸足で最初のレッスンに参加しましたが、先生がソックスを貸してくれました。優しい。
ワールドダンスのレッスンでは、クラシックの先生とは別の先生が教えます。フォークダンス風の長めのスカートを借りてレッスンしました。靴もバレエシューズではなくローヒール風の黒い靴になります。バレエ留学のお姉さんたちがこうゆうの着てた💛何だか楽しそうです。

さて、初日のレッスンに参加したときに、衝撃の事実が判明しました。ファイナルオーディション準備コースに呼ばれた子どもは全部で28人。そのうち男の子が3人、女の子が25人です。まず、25人の女子のほとんどがおそろいのピンクのレオタード＆バレエ学校のジャージを着ているんです。そして、男子も含めてみんな超仲良さそうにおしゃべりしたりじゃれ合ったりしています。おそろいじゃないレオタードは、かれんを入れて3人。なんと、1次オーディション合格者の大多数はこのバレエ学校のプレコースの出身者だったのです。バレエ学校は10歳から始まりますが、それより下の年齢の子ども向けに週2回くらいのプレコースがあって、そこに通っている子たちがオーディションを受けてファイナルオーディション準備コースに参加していたのです。やばいです、かれん完全アウェイ状態！！
しかも、見た感じの人種的に言うと、アジア人はかれん1人。黒人の女の子1人、男の子1人がいますが、それ以外の25人は白人。合格者のリストを見た時にアジア系の名前が1個もなかったのである程度予想はしていましたが、中国人も韓国人もいません。白人の女の子たちがこれまた揃いも揃って背が高く、手脚がほっそーーーくてながーーーい。頭ちっちゃーーーい。そう、いわゆるバレリーナ体形の子ばっかり。そして黒人の女の子は、他の子どもたちより頭一つ分くらいさらに背が高く、筋肉質な体つきで、めちゃくちゃ身体能力高そう系。えーーーちょっと待ってこのメンバーでレッスンしてファイナルオーディション受けるのか・・・かれん、一次は受かったけど、やっぱり名門校、、、敷居が高いのね。。。と思ってしまいました。

かれんも、私と同じことを思っていたようで、「うわ！脚なが！ほそ！みんな友達じゃん。ママ、どうしよう緊張する～！！」とレッスン前のこの想定外の状況に気圧された模様でした。そうだよね・・・と思いましたが、ここで私はかれんを励まさなければいけません。「大丈夫、内容はいつものバレエのレッスンだから。これまでやってきたことをやれば大丈夫だよ」ととりあえず伝えて送り出すのが精一杯でした。

なお、一緒にオーディションを受けた例のスーパーガールは、レッスンには参加していませんでした。彼女は不合格だったのか、辞退したのか等、わかりません。

さて、初回のレッスンを終えて、かれんが戻ってきました。ほっぺがバラ色に上気して笑顔で「楽しかったー！！」。私もようやくほっとしました。聞いてみると、フロアでのストレッチや筋トレが多く、バーレッスンもなくてセンターレッスンが少し。日本のバレエスクールではもっと難易度の高い内容をやっていたので、レッスン内容は彼女にとってはそれほど難しいものではなかったようです。オランダなどヨーロッパのバレエ学校では、バレエダンサー向きの身体やメンタルを作っていくところから始め、基礎を徹底すると聞いていましたが、まさにそうなんですね。そしてこの日2度目の驚きは、「かれんが一番上手だった」発言！キターーーー！いや、それは事実ではないと思うんです。でも、私はそれを言えてしまうかれんのメンタルに脱帽です(笑)。レッスン前はかなりビビっていたはずですが、レッスンをしっかり楽しみ、レッスンが終わるころにはすっかり自信を取り戻した模様。

そんな感じで、週2回のレッスンを楽しむことができています。このファイナルオーディション準備コースでは、レッスン以外に保護者向け説明会とフィジオ(理学療法士)による身体のチェックがありました。できれば次回はこの2つについてお伝えしようと思います。

It has been a while since my last article and I have dragged out the results of Karen's first audition for ballet school! The day after her audition, I received a phone call from her ballet teacher. The result was, to my surprise, a pass.  She still has to go through the final audition, so it doesn't mean that she has been accepted, but it's a good start to receive this happy news just a week after moving to the Netherlands.

In the following week she immediately started attending the final audition preparation course. Until the end of April, when the final audition takes place, she has to go to the ballet school in Amsterdam twice a week! From our house it takes about one hour each way by bicycle => train => metro...

The lesson schedule is as follows:
classical and world dance. What is world dance? I wondered what world dance was, but it's a type of ballet in which dances from various countries are performed on stage, regardless of the main story. For example, in Swan Lake, there are Spanish dances, Neapolitan dances, Hungarian dances called Czardas, etc.) It seems to be something like that.

So now I would like to tell you about the Final Audition Preparation Course!

Schedule

The course consists of five classical ballet classes and two world dance classes in total. Costed 115 euros.
On Wednesdays 16:30-18:15 Classical ballet
On Saturdays 09:45-11:00 World dance, and 11:15-12:30 Classical ballet.

I honestly didn't think she would be accepted, so I was thrilled for her just to be able to take lessons at this prestigious school for a few weeks!

What to wear for lessons.

Leotards, ballet shoes and hair in a bun are the same as in Japan, but to my surprise, they are not allowed to wear tights. In fact, at the audition, it was written that "ballet socks" were to be worn and that tights were not to be worn. She didn't have any ballet socks, so she went barefoot and wore ballet shoes. I investigated and this ↓ was the correct answer.

We wanted to go and buy them, but there is only one ballet shop in the town where we live, and it was closed during the Easter holidays, so we couldn't get them before the first lesson. She had no choice but to attend her first lesson barefoot and the teacher lent her socks. Kindness.
World dance lessons are taught by a different teacher from the classical teacher. Everyone borrowed a long folk dance-style skirt for the lesson. The shoes will also be low-heeled style black shoes instead of ballet shoes. I have seen the girls on the ballet study abroad program wore something like this💛It looks like they are having some fun.

Now, when she attended her first day of lessons, we found out a shocking fact. There were 28 children in total who were invited to the final audition preparation course. Of these, 3 are boys and 25 are girls. First of all, most of the 25 girls are wearing the same pink leotards & ballet school jerseys. And they all look good friends, including the boys, chatting and joking with each other. There are only three girls whose leotards that are not that pink one, including Karen. To my surprise, the majority of the successful auditionees were from this ballet school's pre-course. Ballet school starts at the age of 10, but there is a pre-course for younger children that meets twice a week, and the children who attended this course were auditioning for the final audition preparation course.

It's bad, Karen completely away from home! And, racially speaking from what I saw, Karen was the only Asian. There is one black girl and one boy, but the other 25 are white. When I looked at the list of successful applicants, there was not a single Asian name, so I expected this to some extent, but there are no Chinese or Koreans. The white girls were all tall, and their arms and legs were so long and thin. Their heads are tiny. Yes, they all have what is called a ballerina body shape. And the black girl is about a head taller than the other children, with a muscular body and looks extremely physically fit.

I thought, "Wait a minute, are we going to have lessons with this group and then go to the final audition... Karen, passed the first round, but I knew that this is a prestigious school and that the threshold is high...". I thought, 'She's not going to go through the final audition. Karen seemed to be thinking the same thing as me and said, "Wow, their legs are so long!  Everyone is already friends. Mum, what should I do, I'm so nervous~! She seemed to be overwhelmed by this unexpected situation before the lesson. I thought, "That's right..." But here I had to cheer her up. 'Don't worry, it's a regular ballet lesson. You will be fine as long as you do what you have been doing so far.

Supergirl, who auditioned with Karen, did not attend the lesson. I don't know if she was unsuccessful or declined.

Well, after the first lesson, Karen came back. Her cheeks were rosy and she smiled and said, "That was fun!!!" . I was finally relieved too. When I asked her about it, she told me that there was a lot of stretching and muscle training on the floor, no barre lessons and a few centre lessons. The content of the lessons was not so difficult for her, as she had been doing more challenging things at her ballet school in Japan. I had heard that in ballet schools in Europe, such as the Netherlands, they start by building a body and mentality suitable for ballet dancers, and focus on the basics thoroughly, and that's exactly what they do.
And the second surprise of the day was when she said "I was the best"! OMG!! No, I don't think that's true. But I take my hat off to Karen's mentality to be able to say that. She must have been quite scared before the lesson, but she thoroughly enjoyed the lesson and seemed to have regained her confidence by the end of the lesson. How strong she is!

That's how we enjoy our twice-weekly lessons. In addition to the lessons, this final audition preparation course included an information session for parents and a physical check by a physio (physiotherapist). I will tell you about these two in the next issue.
