オランダ国旗とかばん掲揚

6月中旬ですが、肌寒いオランダ。私はまだヒートテック上下着ています…。最高気温は20度に行きません。今日も自転車で移動中に雨に降られてぐっしょり濡れて寒かった～。常にレインジャケット携帯してますが、レインパンツがないので買いたい！

さて、道を歩いていると、オランダ国旗と一緒にリュックが掲揚されていました。雨でバックパックが濡れちゃったから、それを干してるのかな?それにしても変なところに干すもんだ。と思っていたら。

この家にも！

ダブル掲揚！

何軒もあるんです、国旗とかばんを掲揚している家が。そして思い出しました、オランダの風習で、子どもが高校の卒業試験に合格すると、かばんを国旗とともに掲げるんですって。この時期、アカデミックイヤー(年度)の終わりなので、急に見かけるようになったんですね。何だかほほえましい風習です。これを見かけたら、心のなかで「おめでとう！」と念じています。

It is mid-June, but chilly in the Netherlands. I'm still wearing my HEATTECH top and bottom... The maximum temperature does not reach 20 degrees Celsius. It rained again today when I was cycling and I was soaking wet and cold! I always carry a rain jacket, but I don't have rain pants, so I need to buy some!

When I was walking down the street, I saw a backpack flying alongside the Dutch flag. Maybe the backpack got wet from the rain and they're drying it out? But still, it's a strange place to hang it out to dry. 

But there are a number of houses, where the flag and the bag are flown. And then I remembered that it is a Dutch custom that when a child passes his or her high school graduation exams, the bag is flown with the national flag. This time of year is the end of the academic year, so you suddenly start to see it. It is a somewhat heartwarming custom. When I see it, I think to myself "Congratulations!
