もしあなたがたが主に仕えることを、こころよしとしないのならば、あなたがたの先祖が、
川の向こうで仕えた神々でも、または、いまあなたがたの住む地のアモリびとの神々でも、
あなたがたの仕える者を、きょう、選びなさい。
ただし、わたしとわたしの家とは共に主に仕えます」。

If it seems evil to you to serve Yahweh, choose today whom you will serve;
whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River,
or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell;

These are the words Joshua spoke to the Israelites, forcing them to make a choice.
CHOICE AND LOYALTY: Joshua tells the people, "Choose this day whom you will serve. We are faced with choices in our daily lives. As believers, we are expected to choose God and pledge allegiance to Him. Our choices affect our life of faith.
Joint service with family: Joshua adds, "But I and my household will serve the Lord together." It is important for believers to serve God with their families. Our families are also places of faith, and by sharing opportunities to serve God, we can deepen our faith.
Turning from idolatry: Joshua says, "Whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites in the land where you now live. Believers should turn from idolatry and choose to serve the true God.
I pray that we will choose God first in the choices we face in our daily lives, in our loyalties, in our joint service with our families, and in our conversion from idolatry.
