2021年度大学入学共通テスト第2日程解説【英語・リーディング】

▼1月30日に行われた，大学入学共通テスト第2日程の英語（リーディング）の解説です。これまでセンター試験では，追試験の問題形式が翌年の本試験で取り入れられたこともありましたので，来年度，共通テストを受験する皆さんは是非，この第2日程の問題も解いてください。

【1】第2日程リーディング概略

① 問題の構成や分量などは第1日程とほぼ同じだが，第2日程の方が全体的にやや「堅い」印象を受けた（第1日程に見られた「お遊び」的要素が見当たらなかった）。
② 「単調な作業をひたすらやらされる」という印象は第1日程と同じだが，第1日程の問題で慣れてしまったのか，それほど苦痛には感じなかった（苦笑）。
③ fact（事実）とopinion（意見）を区別する問題については，第1日程の方が完成度が高かったようにも思える。たとえば，第2問A問題問3については正解に若干の疑義が残る。ひょっとして作問者が異なるのであろうか。仮に作問者が異なる場合，「事実と意見の区分」についてのコンセンサスが完全に得られていない可能性も考えられるのではないか。
④ 第5問と第6問については第1日程と同様に実在する人名・団体などについて書かれている。また，第4問や第6問B問題で用いられているグラフも実在のデータをもとに作られている。
⑤ 第1日程になかった形式の問題として，第6問A問題問3の「要約文完成問題」と，第6問B問題問3の「グラフ選択問題」が挙げられる。
⑥ センター試験でも出題されてはいたが，「特定の一か所の単純な言いかえ」ではなく，複数の箇所にまたがる情報を融合し，さらにそれらをまとめる（抽象化する）ことや，ズバリそのものとは明示されていないが，本文の情報に基づいて推測する問題が増加したように見受けられる。
⑦ 私自身は，第1日程より第2日程の問題の方が完成度が全体的に高く，難易度も適切であるように思えた。

【2】大問別解説

第1問

［A問題］
▼スマートフォンでのテクストメッセージのやり取り。
問1　[1] ①：本文の "Do I need to bring a blanket?" から，①の "a blanket" が正解。
問2　[2] ④：本文の "We'll pick you up outside your house at 6 a.m." から，④の "wait for you outside her house"（それを聞いて本当に嬉しい）が正解。

［B問題］
▼スピーチコンテスト参加者募集のチラシを見て応募の手順を理解する。
問1　[3] ③：Contest information の表の中の "A brief outline"（簡潔な概略）から，③の "summary of your speech"（スピーチの要約）が正解。
問2　[4] ③：本文後半の "You can check the results of Stage 1 and 2 on the website five days after the deadline for each stage."（各ステージの〆切の5日後にサイト上でステージ1と2の結果をチェックできる）とあることと，Contest information の表の中でステージ2の〆切が "Upload by 5 p.m. on September 19" とあることから，③の "September 24" が正解。
問3　[5] ②：決勝で高得点を取るにはcontentと何に最も注意を払うべきかが問われている。 "Grand Final Grading Information" の表では，"Content" が50%で，それに次ぐのは "Answering Questions ffrom Judges" の30%なので，②の "responses to the judges"（審査員への返答）が正解。

第2問

［A問題］
▼飲み物の容器の利用に関する調査結果を読む。
問1　[6] ③：Question 1 では使い捨てボトルの飲み物を週に何本購入しているかが問われている。表の内容から，29名中16名が少なくとも5本購入していると回答しているので，③の "more than half the students buy at least five bottles a week"（半分以上の生徒が少なくとも週に5本購入している）が正解。
問2　[7] ②：Question 2の結果，半分以上の生徒が何をしているか（していないか）が問われている。Question 2は "Do you have your own reusable bottle?"（自分自身の再利用可能なボトルを持っているか）という問いで，Yesが17人［58.6%］（うち，使っていないと回答したのは14人），Noと回答したのは12人［41.4%］なので，②の "have their own reusable bottle" が正解。
問3　[8] ③：Question 3（再利用可能なボトルを使わない理由は？）におけるクラスメートの「意見」を選ぶ問題。"It takes too much time to wash reusable bottles." （再利用可能なボトルを洗うのには多くの時間がかかりすぎる）という「意見」から，③の "washing reusable bottles takes a lot of time" が正解。①の "some students have a stock of single-use bottles at home"，②の "there are vending machines for buying drinks at school"，および，④の "water in unopened single-use bottles lasts a long time" はいずれも「事実」を表している。【※ただし，厳密に言えば，④の "for a long time" というのは主観的な表現である（どの程度の期間を「長い」とするかは人により異なる）ため，この選択肢を確実に「誤り」だとみなせるかどうかは疑問である。たとえば，Single-use bottled water can be stored longer than water in a reusable bottle. 等とすべきではなかったか。】
問4　[9] ①：使い捨てボトルについて，Question 3でクラスメートが述べた「事実」を選ぶ問題。"I can buy drinks from vending machines at school." とあることから，①の "available to buy at school"（学校で手に入る）が正解。②の "convenient to use"（使うのに便利），③の "light enough to carry around"（持ち運ぶのに軽い），④の "not too expensive to buy"（買うのにあまり高くない）はいずれも主観的な「意見」。
問5　[10] ④：クラスメートが再利用可能なボトルを使わない理由のうち，最も可能性の高いものを選ぶ問題。Question 3の回答で最も数が多かったのは "It takes too much time to wash reusable bottles."（再利用可能なボトルを洗うのには多くの時間がかかりすぎる）と，"I think single-use bottles are more convenient."（使い捨てボトルの方が便利だと思う）なので，それらの情報を組み合わせて考えると，④の "They are troublesome to deal with."（扱うのが面倒である）が正解となる。

［B問題］
▼イギリスのサマープログラムで聴講する授業のシラバス。
問1　[11] ①：「このコースで何をするか」を問う問題。本文の "In this course, students will need to present their ideas for dealing with intercultural issues." および "(After this course you should be able to) express your opinions through discussion and presentations" から，①の "Discuss various topics about culture"（文化についての様々なトピックを議論する）が正解。
問2　[12] ①：「この授業が対象とする学生はどんな学生か」を問う問題。授業のタイトルが "COMMUNICATION AND INTERCULTURAL STUDIES" で，説明文にも "We will be studying different cultures and learning how to communicate with people from different cultures. In this course, students will need to present their ideas for dealing with intercultural issues." とあるので，①の "are interested in intercultural issues"（異文化間の問題に関心がある）が正解。
問3　[13] ③：Dr Bennet についての「事実」を選ぶ問題。③の "he is in charge of this course"（彼はこの授業を担当している）が正解。①の "he has good teaching skills"（彼は優れた教育技術を持っている），②の "he is a nice instructor"（彼は優れた指導者だ），④の "he makes the course challenging"（彼はこのコースを難しくする）はいずれも主観的な意見を表している。
問4　[14] ①：このクラスについての「意見」を選ぶ問題。Commentの "The course is a little challenging but easy enough to pass." という意見から，①の "it is not so difficult to get a credit"（単位を取ることはそんなに難しくない）が正解。②の "most students are satisfied with the course" は，"Course-takers' evaluations (87 reviewers) ★★★★★(Average: 4.89)" の内容に合致した「事実」だと言える。③の "participation is part of the final grade" は，Evaluation の中に "participation: 10 %" とあり，これも「事実」である。④の "students students have have classes twice a week" は，冒頭の "Tuesday & Friday" に合致しているが，これも「意見」ではなく「事実」である。
問5　[15] ③：「このコースに合格するには何をしなければならないか」が問われている。Evaluation（評価）の項目に "two presentations: 90% (45% each)" と "participation: 10 %" とあり，プレゼンテーションが重視されていることがわかる。よって，③の "Give good presentations about intercultural issues"（異文化間の問題について優れたプレゼンテーションを行う）が正解。

第3問

［A問題］
▼イギリス人の友人が新しい遊園地を訪れた感想を書いたブログを読む。
問1　[16] ②：第2パラグラフ第4文の "Before lunch, we went to the Discovery Zone. It was well worth the wait to experience the scientific attractions there." という内容から，②の "Jan waited for a while to enjoy the scientific attractions"（ジャンは科学的なアトラクションを楽しむために少しの間待った）が正解。"It was well worth the wait to experience the scientific attractions there." は「そこで科学的なアトラクションを経験することは，待っただけの価値が十分にあった」という意味。
問2　[17] ②：どの休憩所でジャンと友人が午後に休憩したかを問う問題。
"Of course, we tried the roller coaster, and we weren't disappointed. On our way back to the Discovery Zone to enjoy more attractions, we took a short break at a rest stop." という表現と地図上の位置情報から，ジェットコースターと Discovery Zone の間にある休憩所で休んだと考えられる。よって，②の "Rest Stop B" が正解。

［B問題］
▼友人から紹介されたミュージシャンについて音楽雑誌で情報を得る。
問1　[18] ③→[19] ②→[20] ④→[21] ①：時系列で出来事を整理する問題。第2パラグラフ第5文の "When he was still a high school student, he became a member of The Bluebirds, playing rhythm guitar." から，③の "Dave joined a band as the guitarist."（デイブはギタリストとしてバンドに参加した）が最初に来る。次に，第3パラグラフ最終文の "However, Dave jumped at the chance to take over as lead singer even though it meant he could no longer play his favourite instrument." から，②の "Dave gave up playing the drums."（デイブはドラムの演奏をあきらめた）が入る。"his favourite instrument"（彼のお気に入りの楽器）が the drums であることは，第2パラグラフ第2文の "He was never happier than when he was playing his toy drum." から判断する。 さらに，第4パラグラフ第1文，第2文の "In the following years, Black Swan became increasingly successful, topping the music charts and gaining even more fans. Dave became the principal song writer, and was proud of his contribution to the band." から，④の "Dave reached the peak of his career."（デイブは自分のキャリアの頂点に達した）が入り，最後に第4パラグラフ第4文の "Dave became frustrated, and he and the lead guitarist decided to leave and start a new group." から，①の "Dave became a solo artist."（デイブはソロアーティストになった）が入る。
問2　[22] ④：デイブがブラックスワンのリードヴォーカルになった理由を答える問題。第3パラグラフ第3文・第4文の "It came as a shock, therefore, when the lead vocalist quit to spend more time with his family. However, Dave jumped at the chance to take over as lead singer even though it meant he could no longer play his favourite instrument." から，④の "the previous singer left for personal reasons"（前の歌手が個人的な理由で去った）が正解。
問3　[23] ③：本文の内容に一致するものを選ぶ問題。第2パラグラフの内容，特に第3文・第4文の "At age seven, he was given his first real drum set, and by 10, he could play well. By 14, he had also mastered the guitar." から，③の "Dave displayed a talent for music from an early age." が正解。

第4問

▼日本の観光についてのプレゼンテーションの準備として資料とメールのやり取りを読む。
問1　[24] ③：プレゼンテーションのタイトルを選ぶ問題。グラフの内容から，③の "Spending Habits of International Visitors in Japan"（日本を訪れる各国の訪問者の滞在習慣）が正解。
問2　[25] ④：ハンナがプレゼンを担当するトピックを答える問題。ハンナのメールの第2パラグラフ最終文で "I'd like to talk about this." と述べている。このパラグラフでは，アジアからの訪問者の行動について述べられているので，④の "Patterns in spending by visitors from Asia"（アジアからの訪問者の滞在におけるパターン）が正解。
問3　[26] ①：リックがプレゼンを担当するトピックを答える問題。リックからのメールの第2パラグラフで "I notice from the data that Australians spend the most on entertainment. I'll present on this." と述べられているので，①の "Australian tourists' interest in entertainment" が正解。
問4　[27] ②・[28] ③：「私」が担当する「滞在時間の長さとの関係」について述べた英文の空所を埋める問題。"People from [ 27 ] stay just over half the time in Japan compared to people from [ 28 ], but spend slightly more money on entertainment."（[28]から来た人たちに比べると，[27]から来た人たちは日本に半分とちょっとの時間しか滞在しいていないが，娯楽に費やすお金はわずかに多い。）という内容なので，[27]は[28]の滞在時間の半分で，かつ，[27]は[28]より娯楽の費用が少し多いことになる。この条件に合うのは，[27]が②の China（滞在時間＝9.7，娯楽費＝7,998）で，[28] が③の France（滞在時間＝18.4，娯楽費＝7,358）である。
問5　[29] ③：将来の研究のテーマを答える問題。ハンナからのメールの第3パラグラフでは "However, I've heard that visitors from Asia are now becoming interested in doing some other things instead of shopping. We may see some changes in this kind of data in the near future!" と述べられている。これは D の "What Asian visitors in Japan will spend money on in the future"（日本を訪れるアジア人の訪問者が将来何にお金を費やすか）に相当する。また，リックからのメールでは，第3パラグラフで "Also, the other day, on Japanese TV, I saw a program about Australian people enjoying winter sports in Hokkaido. I wonder how much they spend. I'll look for more information. If you find any, please let me know. This could be good for a future project." と述べている。これは Aの "Australians' budgets for winter sports in Japan"（オーストラリア人が日本の冬のスポーツに費やす予算）に相当する。よって，AとDの組み合わせの③が正解となる。

第5問

▼アメリカの路上写真家であるヴィヴィアン・メイアーについての紹介文。
問1　[30] ①：「写真家としてのヴィヴィアン」の特徴として正しいものを選ぶ問題。本文第1パラグラフ第2文の "She lived her life as a caregiver, and if it had not been for the sale of her belongings at an auction house, her incredible work might never have been discovered. " から，①の "Her work remained undiscovered until it was sold at auction."（彼女の作品はオークションで売られるまで発見されないままであった）が正解。
問2　[31] ①・[32] ④：ヴィヴィアンの写真が何に焦点を当てたものかを答える問題。
第6パラグラフ第3文の "Some people were not even aware that their picture was being taken." および，第7文の "Vivian continued to document Chicago life until the early 1970s, when she changed to a new style of photography." から，①の "documentary-style pictures" が正解。また，第6パラグラフ第4文の "She also took a number of self-portraits." から，④の "pictures of herself"（彼女自身の写真）も正解。
問3　[33] ③→[34] ④→[35] ①→[36] ②：ヴィヴィアンの作品が認知されるようになった経緯を時系列で並べ替える問題。
出発点の "Vivian's storage fees were not paid." は第2パラグラフ第2文の "She had stopped paying storage fees, and so the company decided to sell her things." の内容に相当する。その直前の第1文で "A Chicago auction house was selling off the belongings of an old woman named Vivian Maier." と述べられている。これは，③ "An auction company started selling her old photographs and negatives."（あるオークション会社が彼女の古い写真とネガを売り始めた）に相当するので，③が最初にくる。次に，第3パラグラフ第1文の "Slattery thought Vivian's work was interesting so he published her photographs on a photo-sharing website in July 2008." という情報から，④の "Her work was published on the Internet."（彼女の作品がインターネット上で公開された）が来る。さらに，第3パラグラフ第3文の "Then, in October, Maloof linked his blog to his selection of Vivian's photographs, and right away, thousands of people were viewing them." から，①の "A buyer linked his blog to some of her pictures."（ある購入者が自分のブログに彼女の写真の何枚かにリンクを張った）が入り，最後に第5文の "Then an Internet search led him to a 2009 newspaper article about her death." から，②の "A report on Vivian's death was published in a newspaper."（ヴィヴィアンの死に関する報道が新聞で発表された）が入る。
問4　[37] ①：ヴィヴィアンの作品が世界中に知られるようになった理由を答える問題。最終パラグラフ第2文の "The film led to exhibitions in Europe and the US."
から，①の "Exhibitions of her work have been held in different parts of the world."’（彼女の作品の展示会が世界の様々な地域で行われた）が正解。
問5　[38] ④：まだ答えの出ていない「大きな問い」とは何かを答える問題。本文では明言されていないため，推測すると同時に消去法で解答する必要がある。第4パラグラフ第2文の "First, since no one had interviewed her while she was alive, no one knew why she took so many photographs." から，④の "Why did she take so many photos without showing them to anyone?"（なぜ彼女は誰にも見せることなくそれほど多くの写真を撮ったのか）が正解。①の ""What type of camera did she use for taking photos?""（彼女は写真を取るのにどんな種類のカメラを使ったのか），②の "Where did she keep all her negatives and prints?"（彼女は全てのネガと写真をどこにしまっていたのか），③の "Why did she leave New York to become a caregiver?"（なぜ彼女は介護士になるためにニューヨークを去ったのか）はいずれも本文で「謎」としては言及されていない。

第6問

［A問題］
▼ロイヤルシェイクスピアカンパニーの近年の変化について書かれた英文を読む。
問1　[39] ②：RSCが2019年の夏に行ったことについて選ぶ問題。第3パラグラフ最終文の "The cast included three actors with disabilities (currently referred to as "differently-abled" actors)―one visually-impaired, one hearing-impaired, and one in a wheelchair" から，②の "hired three differently-abled performers"（3人の異なる能力を持った［障害を持った］演者を雇った）が正解。
問2　[40] ③：筆者が Amy Trigg に言及した理由を推測する問題。Amy Trigg は第4パラグラフ第5～第6文 "That role was played by Amy Trigg, a female actor who uses a wheelchair. Trigg said that she was excited to play the role and believed that the RSC's changes would have a large impact on other performing arts organizations." で言及されている。このパラグラフでは，雇用ポリシーの変更だけでなく，RSC が観客に男女の力関係について考え直してもらうために配役を変更し，男女の役割を入れ替えていることが述べられており，Amy Trigg は元々男性だった召使を女性に変えた役として起用されたとされている。このことから，③の "was a good example of the RSC's efforts to be inclusive"（インクルーシブであろうとするRSCの努力の良い例である）が正解となる。なお，inclusive という単語は最終パラグラフ第1文の "The RSC's decision to reflect diversity in the summer 2019 season can be seen as a new model for arts organizations hoping to make their organizations inclusive."（2019年夏期における，多様性を反映させようとするRSCの決定は，自分たちの組織をインクルーシブにしようと願う芸術団体にとって新たなモデルとしてみなされることができる） に登場する。inclusive とは include（…を含む）の形容詞形で，通例，「包括的な」などと訳されるが，ここでは，多様な背景・出自・能力を持った人々を包括する，という意味で用いられており，既に日本語でも「インクルーシブ教育」「インクルーシブデザイン」といった表現で使われている。その意味では，この問題は一種の「スキーマ」を問う問題になっていると考えることもできる。
問3　[41] ③：本文の要約文を完成させる問題。第1パラグラフ第1文 "While most people recognize that the world is made up of a wide variety of people, diversity―showing and accepting our differences―is often not reflected in performing arts organizations." から，人々がダイバーシティ（多様性）を認識しているにもかかわらず，芸術団体ではそれが反映されていないと述べられており，第1パラグラフ最終文ではそうした期待に応えるべく "One theater company responding positively is the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), which is one of the most influential theater companies in the world." と述べられている。また，その後は RSC による実際の取り組みが述べられているので，③の "contributed to matching social expectations with actions"（社会的な期待と行動を合致させることに貢献した）が正解。本文の表現をそのまま使っているわけではないので，単なる言いかえというより，いくらか推測も必要とする問題。
問4　[42] ④：自分の所属する演劇部はRSCの考えに賛同しているという前提で，どのようなことをするかを推測して選ぶ問題。第2パラグラフ第3文 "In order to achieve this, it has started to employ a balance of female and male actors and staff with a variety of backgrounds and abilities." や第3パラグラフ第3文 "To achieve gender balance for the entire season, half of all roles were given to male actors and half to female actors." によれば，本文ではRSCがジェンダー役割を見直し，男女の役割を入れ替えて演じることなどが述べられている。よって，④の "remove gender stereotypes from its performances"（その演技からジェンダーのステレオタイプを取り除く）が正解。

［B問題］
▼歯（のケア）の重要性を訴えるポスターを作成するために英文を読む。
問1　[43] ④：5つの選択肢の中から本文の主張に合わないものを選ぶ問題。
"A. Crucial to speak properly" は，第1パラグラフ第4～第5文の "Teeth are required to pronounce words accurately. In fact, poor oral health can actually make it difficult to speak." に書かれている。"B. Necessary to break down food" は，第1パラグラフ第6～第7文の "An even more basic necessity is being able to chew well. Chewing breaks food down and makes it easier for the body to digest it." に書かれている。"C. Helpful to enjoy food" は，題をパラグラフ第8文の "Proper chewing is also linked to the enjoyment of food. The average person has experienced the frustration of not being able to chew on one side after a dental procedure." に書かれている。"E. Essential for good quality of life" は第1パラグラフ第9～第10文の "A person with weak teeth may experience this disappointment all the time. In other words, oral health impacts people's quality of life." に書かれている。しかし，④の "D. Needed to make a good impression"（良い印象を与えるために必要とされる）は本文では言及されていないので，④が正解。
問2　[44] ③：ポスターの二つ目の見出しを選ぶ問題。空所[44]の下にある "Finland & the US: Recommendations for treatment before age 1"，"New Zealand: Free treatment for youth"，"Japan: 8020 (Eighty-Twenty) Campaign (see Figure 1)"という表現から，これは第3・第4パラグラフにまたがるタイトル選択問題だと考えられる。複数のパラグラフにまたがってタイトルを選ばせる問題は初めての形式（ただし，パラグラフのかたまりを区切らせる問題はセンター試験で既に出されていたので，その延長線上にあると考えられる）。また，この文章は第1パラグラフ第1文に "In recent years, governments around the world have been working to raise awareness about oral health." とあることから，各国の取り組みについて紹介している記事であることもわかる。よって，④の "National Efforts to Encourage Oral Care"（口腔ケアを促進する国の努力）が正解。
問3　[45] ④：第4パラグラフで挙げられている数値をもとに，グラフを選ぶ問題。グラフを選択する問題は試行調査で既に出されていたが，第1日程では出題されなかった。"In each survey, with the exception of 1993, the percentages of people with at least 20 teeth were in A-B-C-D order from high to low." という表現から，①が不適切だとわかる。次に "In 1993, 25.5% in Group A had at least 20 teeth, but by 2016 the Group D percentage was actually 0.2 percentage points higher than Group A's initial figure." という表現から，②の不適切だとわかる。さらに "Group B increased steadily at first, but went up dramatically between 2005 and 2011." から③は不適切で，④が正解だとわかる。
問4　[46] ③・[47] ⑤：ポスターの最後の見出しに具体的なアドバイスを2つ載せるという設定で，5つのうちから適切な見出しを2つ選ぶ問題。最終パラグラフ第1文の "Visiting the dentist annually or more frequently is key." から，③ "Make at least one visit to the dentist a year."（毎年少なくとも一度は歯医者さんを訪れよう）が一つの正解となる。また，第5パラグラフ第4文の "Dentists also believe it is important to floss daily, using a special type of string to remove substances from between teeth." から，⑤ "Use dental floss between your teeth daily."（毎日，歯と歯の間を磨くデンタルフロスを使おう）がもう一つの正解となる。
