リベカのアドベント -クリスマス-
クリスマスの朝は子供たちにとって一年の内で一番わくわくしてドキドキする時です。
リベカは鳥のさえずりが聞こえ出す前から起き出して、一目散にツリーめがけて走ります。はたしてそこには、リベカのずっと欲しかったウサギのぬいぐるみが長靴下から顔をのぞかせていました。引っぱり出して、抱きかかえるとリベカはお姉さんみたいな口調で言いました。
「あなたは、黒いウサギだから名前はリコリスね！」
そうそう、リベカの名前のことをお伝えするのを忘れていました。リベカは英語読みだとレベッカ（アンニカがベッキーと呼ぶのはレベッカの愛称がベッキーだからです）、旧約聖書に登場するとても美しい女性です（ちなみにお父さんのラバンというのは同じく旧約聖書に出てくるレベッカのお兄さんの名前です）。
「リコリス、これからよろしくね！ ……あれ？」
リベカがからっぽになったはずの長靴下を持ち上げようとすると、なんだかまだ何かが入っているみたいです。
「まあ、ガブリエル！ また遊びに来たのね」
「やあ、おはよう。素敵なクリスマスプレゼントが届いたのかい？」
「パパ、おはよう！ こっちがリコリスで、こっちがガブリエル」
「ふたつも届いたのかい。素晴らしいね！」
お父さんとお母さんはお祈りを捧げた後に、ゆっくりと朝ご飯の準備をします。今日はお休みですから家族揃って過ごします。
「リベカの持っているフクロウのぬいぐるみは君が用意したのかい？」
「いいえ、てっきりラバンさんが入れたのかと思っていました。……もしかしたら花屋のお兄さんかもしれないわ。長靴下を飾ってくれましたからね」

For children, Christmas morning is the most exciting time of the whole year.
Rebecca woke up before the birds started chirping and ran straight to the Christmas tree. Sure enough, the stuffed rabbit that she had wanted for a long time was peeking out of her stocking. She pulled it out and held it in her arms.
“You’re a black rabbit so your name is Licorice!” she said like a big sister.
Oh yes, speaking of names, we had not yet talked about Rebecca’s name. Rebecca is the name of a beautiful girl mentioned in the Old Testament book of Genesis. Also, her father’s name, Laban, is also taken from Genesis, where Laban is Rebecca’s brother.
“Nice to meet you Licorice! …huh?”
As Rebecca lifted the stocking which she thought would be empty, she felt something still inside.
“Well, Gabriel! You came to visit again.”
“Good morning. Did you find a nice Christmas present?”
“Good morning, father! This is Licorice and this is Gabriel.”
“Wow, you got two Christmas presents? How wonderful!”
After praying, mother and father slowly began preparing for breakfast. Today is a holiday, so the family will spend the day together.
“Did you put that stuffed owl in the stocking, dear?” father asked mother.
“No, I thought you did. Maybe it was the young man at the flower shop. He did decorate the stocking.”
