新作の映画(なんて書いていますが、具体的に予算も何も決まっていないのですが…)のストーリーを考えていた時に、ふと、湧いてきたエピソード。要約すると 親切が仇となって、それがどんどん後戻りできないことになっていく。 という、なんとも気の毒としか言いようのない展開。を考えた。つまり「良かれと思って」という小さな思いやりから大迷惑へ発展していくというもの。 もしこれが運よく映画になったとしたら、お客さんは見た後にどう思うのだろう。 「いやあ、気の毒だったねえ」 「親切も程々に

    • 世の中がデジタルになったばかりにシャッターが切れやしない

      2021年の年の瀬、毎年恒例の「写真の整理」をしていた。1980年代後半から撮り溜めている写真。作品として撮っていたものも、単なる日常のスナップも全部まぜこぜにネガフィルムを段ボールにしまってあって、それをスキャニングしてデータにしたりアルバムにしたり。気が遠くなるくらいの量のネガ。今はようやく2010年代くらいの写真を整理するようになった。 整理している10年くらい前に世界各地で撮った写真。僕の写真は俗に言うストリートフォトというやつで、旅をしながら街の風景の中で見つける市

          食べ終わったお菓子の袋

          排気ガスを盛大に出しながらトラックが行き交うマダガスカル、アンタナナリボの目貫通り。カメラをぶら下げて歩いていたら角からニョキっと少女が顔を出した。恥ずかしそうに、もう中身を全部食べちゃったお菓子の袋を見せて、ニコッとした。シャッターを切った。なぜかジャンケン(的な？)ことをして、通りの車を縫うようにして、笑いながら走って行った。あの時僕はそこにいて、シャッターを切った。2007年のマダガスカル。

          何がっていうわけではないけど不安、みないなことを20代の人たちからよく聞くようになった。今一緒に仕事をしている若手たちに何かをお願いするととてつもないスピードでつくったりする。一見、いいことに見える。早いことはいいこと。でも、どこか、「浅い」。例えるならまるで行列をさばく安売りの店頭のよう。そして、話を聞くと不安だからという言葉が返ってくる。きっと日頃から隙間という隙間に「損をしないお得な情報」を詰め込まれ、ひっきりなしに流れてくる「新着情報」にさらされた姿なんじゃないかな、

          かれこれ3年くらい続く文通の人がいる。会ったことがない方なのですが、ふいに、返事が送られてきて、ふいに返す。一番初めは「はじめまして」から。僕の映像作品を見てくださった方が送ってくれた一通のメールから。時々作品を見ていただいた方から感想のメールをいただく。「ありがとう」のお礼のメールを返信して、多くの場合はそれで終わる。そのあと、この文通は「どういたしまして」という返事が返ってきて、「もうすぐ夏ですね」と返す。それからというもの季節の話、食べものの話、仕事の話、旅の話、小説の
