Episode39 : The Best Breakfast in the World

People say that it is not good manners to eat while reading, watching TV, sometimes talking at a table. However, I would like to have long breakfast reading. Both of my body and spirits are satisfied with nutrition. I also like watching a man have breakfast reading a paper with glasses. It relaxes my mood.

During my trip, I take breakfast at a café in a city not at my hotel. Because, people go to café so as to spend their free time, albeit people go to dining floor at a hotel in order to eat.

It was a beautiful morning. Although it was cold, Sydney’s pale blue sky was dressed in filmy clouds like white silk. I meant to go to café in Darlinghurst, being admired for the best breakfast. After on hour walking from my hotel, I arrived there. But, “bills” stood too modest at a street corner to be found it at my glance. As far as I saw, there was no queue in front of the café. I suspiciously opened the door, and a calm and cosy place caught my eyes. I ordered café au lait and famous Ricotta pancakes. That would be AUD 28 (i.e.¥2,500). The best breakfast valued “ the best price”. They were baked light an fluffy, spreading my mouth in an instant. I spent a relaxing time and enjoyed my breakfast.

Later, I found the bills’ pancake recipe on a web. I expected to eat it at home! So, I tried to cook that. I couldn’t get ricotta cheese, and I made cottage cheese from milk and lemon. Whisk egg whites to stiff peak, and put it in the mixture of milk, egg yolks, ricotta (cottage), flour and baking powder. Bake on frypan with a small portion of butter for 2-3 minutes on each side. Golden pancake, it’s done!

However, the taste didn’t live up my expectation. I tried another two times. But, they were far from bills’ pancakes.

After all, the best breakfast demands the best practice.

第39話　世界一の朝食

食事中に本を読んだり、テレビを見たり、時にはおしゃべりをしたりするのはマナーが悪いとされる。しかし、私は本を読みながらゆっくり朝食をとるのが好きなのだ。脳と身体の両方が滋養に満たされるからである。眼鏡を掛けた男性が、新聞を読みながら朝食をとる姿も好きだ。その姿を見ると、くつろいだ気分になれるのだ。
