自己探求の旅｜The journey of self-discovery

　自分探しの旅は、大切なブレスレットをしまったパリの宝石箱のように、思い出や体験が詰まった宝物が発掘されるのを待っている。

　"The journey of self-discovery is like a treasure box filled with memories and experiences waiting to be explored, just like the jewelry box from Paris that held the precious bracelet.

姪から写真付きでLINEが送られてきた。
姪：これ、ひとみちゃんに、ずーっと前にもらったブレスレット！
私：ぴったりだね。どこで買ったのかな？
姪：どこだろう？この宝石箱に入っていたよ。
私：宝石箱はフランスのお土産。
姪：えーそうなの？ 何円？

My niece sent me a message and photo on Line.
Niece: This is the shell bracelet Hitomi gave me a long time ago!
Me: It fits perfectly. Where did I get it?
Niece: I wonder where? It was in this jewelry box.
Me: The jewelry box is a souvenir from France.
Niece: Oh really? How much was it?

　そして私は、脳内で過去の記憶を辿ってみる。そこはパリ。グリーンで覆われた門に導かれ、入ってすぐのところにあるお店がたまたまおもちゃ屋で、姪二人のお土産を探したのだった。日本のおもちゃ屋は、棚にきちんとプラスチックのおもちゃが並んでいるのが普通だが、パリのおもちゃ屋は、おもちゃ箱の中にでも入ったような、ファンタジーの世界だった。そこで見つけた宝箱は、可愛らしいバレエダンサーが、チャイコフスキーの花のワルツに合わせてクルクル回るオルゴールだ。iPhoneの写真撮影日を見ると、2013年10月23日とあった。そう言えば、その日付は私の祖母の誕生日だ。

　And I traced the memories of the past in my mind. It was Paris. I was led through a green-covered gate into a shop, which happened to be a toy shop, where I looked for souvenirs for my two nieces. In Japan, toy shops are usually neatly lined with plastic toys on shelves, but the toy shop in Paris was like a fantasy world as if I had entered a treasure box. And there I found a treasure box, a music box with a lovely ballet dancer twirling to Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flowers. I looked at the date the photo was taken on my iPhone, it was 23 October 2013. Come to think of it, that was my grandmother's birthday.

　ブログでその日の記事を確認した。その時のことをありありと思い出し、ノスタルジックな気分に浸った。

　I checked the blog for posts from that day. I remembered that time in vivid detail and felt nostalgic.

　そして姪は、「弟が生まれた日のブログは？」と聞いてきたので、またそのリンクを見つけて送ってあげた。その記事には、「弟君が生まれた日、姉二人はこんな顔をしていました」と書いてあり、幼い二人の姪のお茶目な顔があった。

　And my niece asked, "Where's your blog post from the day my brother was born?" So I found the blog and sent it to her. The article said, "This is what my two sisters looked like on the day their brother was born", and there were the mischievous faces of my two young nieces.

姪：やっぱり記憶が残るからブログはいいね。
私：そうなんだよ。毎日の積み重ねは、未来のプレゼントになるんだよ。ちなみに英語で、今＝プレゼント（Present)って言うんだよ。

Niece: I still like the blog because it keeps the memory alive.
Me: Yes, it does. Every day what accumulation becomes present for the future. In English, it's called "present", which means gift.

　さて、貝のブレスレットはどこだろうか？ 海と言えば与論島しかない。与論島の記事をさかのぼってみたら、やはり見つかった。大潮の干潮時だけに姿を現す百合が浜へ行ったとき、おばあさんから買ったものだ。ブレスレットを買ったら、ボーロとお茶まで出してくださったことも思い出して、懐かしい気持ちになった。そして姪にリンクを送った。

　Now, where was the shell bracelet from? The only seaside I could think of was Yoron Island. I went back to the articles on Yoron Island and found them. I bought them from an old lady when I went to Yurigahama beach, which only appears at low tide. I felt nostalgic, remembering that when I bought the bracelet, she even gave me a bun and a cup of tea. I then sent the link.

姪：おお！この貝殻のブレスレット本物なの？
私：もちろん、与論島のおばあちゃんから買ったよ。
姪：え、偽物かと思っていた！
私：東京っ子だな。

Niece: oh! Is this shell bracelet genuine?
Me: Of course, I bought it from an old lady in Yoron Island.
Niece: Eh, I thought it was fake!
Me: You're a Tokyo girl.

　きっかけは姪からの何気ないメッセージからはじまり、そこから記憶をたどり、過去の宝物を発見する道を歩むことになった。それから私は、2006年からパンデミック前の2019年のロケットマンコンサートまでの旅日記をライフコーチのホームページにまとめてみた。

　It all started with a simple message from my niece, which led me down a path of tracing memories and discovering treasures from the past. So I then compiled my travel diary from 2006 to the 2019 Rocketman concert before the pandemic on my life coach's website.

　ライフコーチとしてのひとり旅を通して、自分についてや、自分を取り巻く世界について多くのことを学んできた。そして今後、自分の経験や洞察を他の人々と共有することで、彼らの自己探求の道のりを助けることができればいいなと思った。

　Through my solo travels as a life coach, I have learned so much about myself and the world around me. And now, as I share my experiences and insights with others, I hope to help them on their own paths of self-exploration.

■編集後記

今回の導入文は、英会話レッスンの時間中にできなかったので、ChatGPTに作成してもらいました。まさに自分が表現したい文章になり、驚きです。時間短縮とともに、どのように全体をまとめたらいいか？その表現方法も勉強になりました。
