A Short Story / Eight Years

　"Strangely enough, the men I loved in the past were always eight years senior to me". 
　Whenever she tells me such a story like this, I am delighted with the fact that I am older than she is by eight years. 

　I am not quite sure when I met her for the first time. But as far as I remember, it was at the gym eight years ago that I first met her. 

　Since then, we have exchanged greetings with each other, but we have never come to be on speaking terms with each other. I have never talked to her, and neither has she. 

　Some day almost when I was about to go home, all of a sudden, she accosted me from behind. 

"I am in trouble," she stammered. 

"What happened?" I answered. 

"I am being followed by an old man," she exclaimed. 

　It was at this moment that we two had a conversation for the first time.

　She is doubtless a beautiful girl. Her smile is charming. On top of that, she is curvy. She never passes by without drawing passers-by's attention. It was not long before I fell head over heels in love with her. I have never talked to her for eight years, though.

"Let's go somewhere some day, shall we?" She said to me with a smile. 

"Yes, I also would like to have a date with you."

"Where do you want to go with me?"

"Wherever you like to go." 

"How about going to sea together?"

　Next Saturday, we went to the beach and walked around together. It was a fine day day, but it was very windy. 
　"Please lend me a hand," she said. 
　
　I took her hand. It was very soft and warm. I was happy. The next momont when our eyes met, I kissed her.

　Eight years have passed since we had a date for the first time. 
　She said, "What is the happiest moment?"
　I answered, "I felt happiest when we went to the beach for the first time." 
　She grined at me and said, "That might be the natural course of things." 

　With that, she walked away from me, never to return.
