様々なスタイルと曲構造により、このアルバムはとても聴きやすいです。りょうさんのボーカルは結構激しいですが、たまに「Prometheus」や「Dreamcatcher」や「Sleep Awake」みたいなクリーンボーカルがあります。「Handes」や 「Body Movin’」はラップやnu metal系の影響があります。ゲストであるヒロ(ex FACT, SHADOWS)やIkepy(HERNAME IN BLOOD)などの存在感も目立ちます。

「Astra」のメロディックテンポは、攻撃的な「Prometheus」へと繋ぐイントロのようなものです。でもこの曲はただ激しいだけではなく、クリーンボーカルやブレークダウンもあります。収録されている他の曲「Matrix」や「New Romancer」は、アルバムの中で最も重厚な雰囲気があります。「Matrix」のブレイクダウンで、Ikepyさんが登場する場面は特に激しくていいかんじです！

他にもメロディックハードコアやポストハードコアの曲があり、「Mercury」や「Dreamcatcher」、「Sleep Awake」などが挙げられます。「The Sign」に関してはメロディックの雰囲気から離れ、ブレイクダウンやブルータルギター、キャッチーなコーラスに代表される典型的な激しいメタルコアが聞き手を楽しませます。

次の二曲は、僕がこのアルバムと恋に落ちたきっかけです。一番好きな曲は絶対に「Handes」です。激しくてアグレシッブでペースがいい感じです。そして、ハードコアパンクやヒップホップの影響とメタルコアの組み合わせは、一度聞いたら耳から離れません。「Body Movin’」はビートボクシングで始まり、その後、キャッチーなコーラスや強烈なリフが引き連れられてやってきます。途中でnu metalのようなターンテーブルやラップも登場します。

「Sleep Awake」は先ほども触れたメロディック・ハードコア・バイブスに戻ります。キャッチーなコーラスとかなりシンプルな曲の構造でトリを飾り、アルバムは幕を閉じます。

全て。このアルバムは本当に素晴らしいです！もうひと押し欲しい瞬間はいくつかありましたが、わざわざ言及するほどのことでもないと思います。良くも悪くも、これからも変わらないであろうジャンルにおいて、Crystal Lakeみたいなバンドがユニークな音楽にトライしてみて良かったと思います。だからこそ、このジャンルの可能性が広がっていけるのかもしれません。

With a variety of different song structures and styles, this album is really easy to listen to. Ryo's vocals, while remaining pretty brutal, also give way to some clean moments in ‘Prometheus’, ‘Dreamcatcher’, and ‘Sleep Awake’ and even some rap in ‘Handes’ and ‘Body Movin’’. This album also features guest appearances by vocalist Hiro (ex FACT, SHADOWS), Ikepy (HER NAME IN BLOOD), and more.

Astra’s melodic tempo provides a great intro for the aggressiveness of ‘Prometheus’, notable for its intense breakdowns and clean vocals in the later half of the song. The following track, ‘Matrix’, along with ‘New Romancer’ serve as the heaviest on the album. The breakdown on ‘Matrix’ with Ikepy is especially intense!

There are also some melodic hardcore/ post hardcore moments in songs such as ‘Mercury’, ‘Dreamcatcher’, and ‘Sleep Awake’. ‘The Sign’ moves away from the melodic vibes and prepares the listeners for a typical example of intense metalcore with breakdowns, brutal guitars, and a catchy chorus.

But the next two tracks are what really made me fall in love with this album. ‘Handes’ has got to be my favorite. It's intense, aggressive, has good pace, and the mash of hardcore punk and hip hop with metalcore makes it really memorable. ‘Body Movin’’ opens with beatboxing and goes on to a really catchy chorus with intense riffs. Halfway through the song, clean guitars and turn tables bring on some rapping in a nu metalish approach.

‘Sleep Awake’ returns the album to the aforementioned melodic hardcore vibes. With a catchy chorus and rather simple song structure, this serves as a nice closing to the album.

In all, ”The Sign” is really amazing! There were a few minor weak moments but they aren’t worth mentioning. In a scene that can be fairly unchanging, it is great to hear Crystal Lake experimenting and expanding the genre.
