GATHER / @HOTEL CHINZANSO TOKYO / STAYART5 ［English version ］

Hello, my name is Norihiko Fukao and I am the representative of STAY-ART a hotel-based art event organiser. I would like to invite people who want to stay in hotels even if they can't travel as much in these days to a new art project which is a little different but which you have never experienced before.※This project is organised by ourselves. The hotel only provides the space for the art performance.

GATHER, which will be performed this September at Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo, is an art event and you don't have to visit yourself but you can visit by your item as ［avatar］or alter ego. It is a participatory art event using the hotel, where you can send your ［avatar］to the historic hotel in Mejiro and participate in the creation of the work of the artist Sino, who will be staying there.

On the day of the event (26-27 September), the artworks and photography will be uploaded on SNS. This time, the artist Sino will create her world  in the suite room with the participants' belongings ［avatars］ through the model. A photo book will be made and be available at a later date.

The aim of the project is to discover new possibilities for participatory art and new ways of using hotels by creating virtual accommodation experiences and artworks through the medium of the artists' creative activities and the participants' own belongings. At the same time, through this project, we hope to revitalise the hospitality and tourism industry, which is facing a difficult situation due to today's social conditions, and to cultivate new opportunities for artists.

This project was performed  at MOGANA KYOTO in January this year.

In this project, we "invite" your belongings (we call them avatars in this project) into the room instead of yourself. For this project, the artist Sino will work with the model on the theme of "collectivity, greed and duality", using the belongings (clothing) collected from the participants in the hotel.

After graduating from university, Sino worked as an interior designer and graphic designer before entering the world of photography. With the theme of "To create a world more beautiful than vision by the naked eye ", she creates images like classical paintings yet with a unique worldview for all ages .

Implementation schedule 

Beginning of July - End of August Ticket sales will start mainly through direct mail (maximum 30 people)

5 September Deadline for participation

〜9/12 - Guests (participants) will be asked to send avatar descriptions and photo images in advance by email.

9/25 Avatar collection *Please send your avatar by post on the date shown below. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the participant.

9/26-9/27 Artist stay, work with avatars , take photos and post them on social media

9/27- Avatars will be sent back home (shipping costs will be borne by the organiser). Participants will also receive their own avatar photographic data by email.

November onwards: Photo book production

As a rule, please send only one item of clothing (clothes, shoes, hats, accessories, etc.). A set is also fine. Please send us an image of your avatar in advance by email. Please allow for some staining, wetting and scratching. If you have any other questions, please contact us in advance. We do not accept items that cannot be stored, such as food.

Finally

Although this is an unprecedented project, the organiser himself believe that it will be a meaningful project for society, art and the hotel.
