MAYA’s Birthday Live Coming Soon♬
来る、9月8日（金）の夜は、「原宿ラ・ドンナ」で、『MAYAスペシャルBirthday Live!!』と題したバースデーライブが開催されますが、過去のアーカイブスから、こんな記事を投稿した（和訳は、誠に僭越ながら私自身でした^^;）ので、ご紹介します。

ようやくコロナ禍の傷跡が少しずつ癒やされつつある東京原宿の午後7時に
MAYA『Billie』レコ発記念＆クリスマス・スペシャルライブが、2021年12月17日に、ライブレストラン「ラ・ドンナ原宿」で開催されました。
クリスマスシーズンたけなわとなり、表通りはカラフルなイルミネーションで彩られ、界隈を歩く人たちも、どこかウキウキ気分に満たされているかのよう。
ニューアルバムの収録メンバーである、松尾明クァルテット＝二村希一（pf）、新岡誠（ba）、高橋泰廣（ts＆fl）、そしてリーダー松尾明（dr）がステージに上がって間もなく、主役のMAYAさんが登場。
MAYAさんの、赤と黒をベースにした、ちょっとクラシカルなテイストのドレスは、ニューヨークやロス・アンジェルスの有名なジャズライブハウスへの訪問経験が豊富な、私と同年代のジャズフリークのお客様が、まるで往年のビリー・ホリデイを彷彿とさせる衣裳のようだと後に感想を漏らしたように、ステージ映えするものでしたね。
後でご本人に確認したら、最後までこれを着ようかどうか迷ったとのことで、正解だったのではないでしょうか。
披露された楽曲は、もちろん、『Billie』収録曲全曲でしたが、ステージの雰囲気に合わせて敢えてアルバムの収録順とは異なり、さらに最近のMAYAさんのオリジナル曲を随所に散りばめて、このステージならではの“一期一会”のスペシャルなセットリストとなりました。

さて、ステージ中盤に差し掛かり、ここ日本では“ラヴァカン”の愛称で知られ愛唱されている「Lover come back to me〜恋人よ、我に還れ」が始まると、ステージ最前列のテーブルで同席していた、MAYA歴二十年と後で仰っていた女性が、ビリーの曲で一番好きな曲なのと、お連れにそっと呟き、おぉ私も同感と心の中で秘かに相槌を打つ。

MAYAさんは、アルバム収録の2日前に、ドキュメンタリー仕立ての映画『Billie』を観たそうですが、一番印象的だったのは、ビリーの輝くような瞳がカラー映像で再現されていたことだったそうです。
私も、先日、その映画を観ることができましたが、てっきりモノクロ映像が中心になるかと思っていたら、晩年のカラー映像がたくさん残されていたことに驚きました。
ビリーの生涯は、苦難に満ちて、濃く、しかも短いものではありましたが、本人の中で絶望感に苛まれながらも常にポジティブ、1つの希望を心の中に宿しながら、反骨精神旺盛に世の中に立ち向かっていったのかもしれませんね。
そんな心模様の有り様を、ある意味では、同じような体験を積み重ねているMAYAさんの半生を重ね合わせて、このアルバムの収録曲を決めて、ビリーが彼女に乗り移ったかのような歌曲が収められたのかもしれません。
ラヴァカンの後半の歌詞では、最初は過去形で語られていた心境が、今度は現在形で綴られています。

At 7:00 pm in Harajuku, Tokyo, the scars of Corona's scars are finally being healed little by little.
MAYA "Billie" Record Commemorative & Christmas Special Live was held on December 17, 2021 at the live restaurant "La Donna Harajuku".
It's Christmas season, and the main streets are illuminated with colorful illuminations, and people walking around the area seem to be filled with excitement.
The members of the new album, Akira Matsuo Quartet = Kiichi Futamura (pf), Makoto Niioka (ba), Yasuhiro Takahashi (ts & fl), and Akira Matsuo (dr), the leader, soon after they went on stage, MAYA appears.
A red and black based dress with a slightly classical taste is like Billie, a jazz freak of my age who has a lot of experience visiting famous jazz live houses in New York and Los Angeles.It was like a costume that was reminiscent of Holiday, and it looked like a stage, as if I later leaked his impressions.
When I checked with MAYA later, she said she was wondering whether to wear this until the end, so I think it was the correct answer.
Of course, the songs that were shown were all the songs recorded in "Billie", but the order of recording is different from the album recording order according to the atmosphere of the stage, and more recent MAYA's original songs are scattered everywhere, which is unique to this stage. It became a special set list of "Ichigo Ichie＝you only can meet them once in your whole life".

By the way, in the middle of the stage, when "Lover come back to me", nicknamed and being loved with "Lavakan" in Japan, started, at the table in the front row of the stage, the woman, who has been MAYA's fan for 20 years, mentioned later said that it was my favorite song about Billie, and she quietly muttered with her companion, and I also sympathize with her secretly.

MAYA said she watched the documentary film "Billie" two days before the album was recorded, but the most impressive thing was that Billie's shining eyes were reproduced in color. It seems to be.
I was able to watch the movie the other day, but when I was wondering if monochrome images would be the main focus, I was surprised that many color images of my later years were left behind.
Billie's life was full of hardships, deep and short, but she was always positive despite feeling hopeless, and she was rebellious while having one hope in her heart. It may have faced against the world.
In a sense, MAYA's half-life, who has accumulated similar experiences, was combined to decide the songs to be included in this album, and the songs as if Billie had transferred to her were included. It may be.
In the lyrics of the latter half of Lavakan, the feelings that were initially spoken in the past tense are now spelled out in the present tense.
