英語ではどう書くかというと・・
exhibition match

exhibit 　　 が動詞
exhibition    が名詞

これだと半分正解なだけ・・

exhibit  は陳列する　という動詞でもありますが・・
「展示物・展示品」という名詞でもあります。
This museum exhibits a lot of beautiful exhibits.
                      動詞「展示する」　　　  名詞「展示品」

exhibition には展示物という意味はありません。

exhibition は展示会・展覧会という意味です。
There are many beautiful exhibits at the exhibitions of this museum. 

※さらに
exhibition は（力・才能を示すこと）という意味もあります。
This is  a great opportunity for the exhibition of his talent.

エキシビジョン マッチ ( exhibition match )
は正式な和訳は・・
「展覧試合」　というのが本来の意味です。
但し現在では　ショー的な試合を意味しているようです。
