ギフティッドアダルト② 〜三大特性のふたつ目『複雑性:質的異なり』とは？

あ、この人ギフティッドアダルトだ、と思う、英語が読めない先輩の為に、

『THE GIFTED ADULT 〜A REVOLUTIONARY GUIDE FOR LIBERATING EVERYDAY GENIUS〜　ギフティッドの大人〜日々の天才を自由にするための革命的な指針』

という、著者自身がギフティッドアダルトの、564ページある洋書の一部を引用・翻訳したことがある。

外れ値的な性質のせいで、人生の辛苦を舐めてきた先輩にとって、自己をもっと知る場、己の特性に合った、生きる指針を発掘する機会に少しでもなってくれたらいいとなと想い、翻訳した。

翻訳の素人なので、拙くて申し訳ないが、折角なので、ここに転記する。（外国語からの日本語訳含めて、ギフティッドアダルトについて書かれた日本語の本が存在しないのは、残念でならない。）

1.2.1.COMPLEXITY: QUALITATIVELY DIFFERENT

1.2.1.複雑性:質的異なり

Brain research informs us that it is a random assortment of genes that makes gifted individuals different by design.

脳の研究は我々に、ギフティドの個々人を、デザインから異なるように作りあげるのは、遺伝子の無作為な仕分けだと告げる。

However, although genetics is a major factor in intelligence and creative abilities as well, “DNA cannot directly influence behavior.”

しかしながら、遺伝子的特徴は、知能と創造力の主要な要素であるにも関わらず「DNAは、直接的に行動への影響を与えることはできない（とされている）」

It is clear that one need not have brilliant parents to be brilliant.

異彩を放つ両親を持たずとも異彩を放つ者がいるのは明らかである。

Many geniuses emerge from utterly undistinguished families.

多くの天才たちは、全く平凡な家庭から出現している。

Underscoring this data is the fact that “〔o〕f the two dozen most famous mathematicians in the history of the world, all but two were born into families not containing any mathematicians.”

強調したい情報として、世界の歴史の24人の有名な数学者のなかでたったの2人だけが、数学者が含まれなかった家族のもとに生まれたという、事実がある。

There is also a strong link between genetics and all the variables of exceptional ability, including high intelligence and the personality factors of giftedness.

高い知能と、ギフティッドの個性的な要素を含めた、例外的な能力の全ての変数と、遺伝子的特徴には、強力な結びつきもある。

When general giftedness is supplemented by special talents, the likelihood of successful application of abilities increases.

一般的なギフティドの特性が、特別な才能で補われた場合、能力の適応が上手くいく確率は高まる。

But here we are faced with an interesting problem.

しかし、我々はここで、興味深い問題に直面する。

Many gifted children grow up and go through life without demonstrating any unusual creative accomplishments, their exceptional gifts failing to be corroborated by real-life creative contributions.

多くのギフティッドの子供は、例外的に独創的な偉業を実証することなく、彼らの例外的な才能は、実生活の独創的な貢献に失敗しつつ、成長し、人生が過ぎていく。

Something else besides raw talent needs to be present if valuable achievement is the expected outcome.

価値のある実績が、期待された結果だとすれば、生の才能意外にも何かが必要である。

And that something else is exceptional motivation or self-contained drive.

そして、その何かとは、特質した動機付けや、自給式の稼働力である。

Everyday Geniuses have minds that are qualitatively different in that they rapidly assess, integrate, and employ information from multiple domains—facts or theories, images or symbols, feelings, intuition, and Divine illumination.

日々の天才たちは、事実や理論、イメージやシンボル、感情、直感、天与の啓示といった多角的な領域の情報から、すばやく評価し、統合し、使用するという点で、質的に異なった精神を持っている。

Perhaps more than any other trait, complexity makes the internal life of the Everyday Genius dissimilar to that of others.

Complexity is the realm of multiple interests, keen self-awareness, intuition, perception, exceptional memory, originality, and compound thinking.

多角的・多種多様な興味、鋭い自己認識、直感、鑑識力、例外的な記憶力、独創性、組み合わせ思考が、複雑性の領域である。

On the positive side of complexity, we find creative thinkers who are high achievers, often in more than one field.

複雑性の良い側面として、我々は、多くの場合、１つ以上の領域で、高い業績を残す、独創的な考えをする人を見出せる。

Their independent natures allow them to think differently and come up with innovative solutions to break down the barriers of antiquated practices.

At the same time, these “idea people” can be socially adept bridge builders, drawing out the best in others and pulling their talents together to achieve a goal.
