BWT が発行しているドーリル師の本の一つ。発行年不明 (c. 1940-63)。

There has been no one influence which has had a greater effect on man than the moon. Theories put forth by scientists and thinkers have been thrown back and forth as to the prevalence of moon cults, worship and mythology. Now the truths of the moon’s origin and its purpose are given by Dr. Doreal. He relates some fascinating aspects about the moon little known to man today.
The moon actually serves a great occult purpose in man’s development. This purpose is revealed, as well as these subjects: Why the ancient Lemurians were moon worshippers; why some people are so adversely affected by a full moon; why certain cults perform rituals only in a full moon. Especially interesting is the relationship between the Chinese race and the moon.
この紹介文にはない内容を一つ紹介しましょう。
アイルランド古代の伝説的な一族 トゥアタ・デー・ダナン (Tuatha Dé Danann) への言及があります。本書では Tuatha De Daanen と表記されています。
この一族について、驚くべきことが書かれています。
They could fly through the air like birds. They tell one story of one who had the power to make such music on his pipes, that when an army attacked Ireland, he piped on his pipe and the army began to shake and vibrate until they became shadows and then, the shadows of a shadow and then vanished on the wind. What is that but the knowledge of some power to shake the atoms of the body into nothingness.
空を飛ぶことができたこの一族には、パイプス (バグパイプの一種) を演奏して敵の軍勢を消滅させることのできる人がいたというのです。
友人にパイパーがいますが、こんな力がその楽器にあることはその人もおそらく知らないでしょう。

このエピソードは興味深い。ただ、本のテーマの月とどう関係あるのかが不明。上の記述のあとに、この トゥアタ・デー・ダナン族は、しばらくしてから、一族の古のふるさとである緑の地 (a green Land) に向かって旅立ったとあります。
しかし、彼らは去るときに、再び戻ってくる、小さき人びと (the little people) となって 、と言ったのです。世界中の種族に、この不思議な秘密の地 (this stange and secret Land) へ向かうという同じ伝説があると、書かれています。

アイルランドの伝承を知る人は、この (the) little people には「(小) 妖精」(fairies) の意もあることをご存知でしょう。英語の最大の辞書 OED には次のようにあります。
little people
1.1 Fairies, gremlins.
そして、興味深い次の用例が載っています。
1726–31 Waldron Descr. Isle of Man (1865) 27 As they confidently assert that the first inhabitants of their Island were fairies, so do they maintain that these little people have still their residence among them.
マン島 (Irish 海にある島で、ケルト系の文化で有名) の最初の住民は妖精であり、この小さき人びとは今もなお暮らしているというのです。

脱線しましたが、本書に戻ると、われわれの多くがアイルランドのことを「緑の島」「エメラルド島」Emerald Isle と考えるのは、古の トゥアタ・デー・ダナン族が向かった地を彼らが「緑の地」(the Green Land)、「常夏の地」(the Land of Perpetual Summer) と呼んだのを、後に採入れただけであると、書いてあります。この呼称の理由は、彼らが行った地は気候を制御していた (a controlled climate) からというのです。
ここでやっと月とつながります。本書によれば、月は、物質的な惑星ではなく、大きな宇宙船 (a great ship of space) であるというのです。その動きは、そこに暮らしている者たちの意思により導かれていると。
