Youth in India has always been known for their artistic bend, their design inclination and finery. Today’s youth is getting more and more involved in finding different ways of expression and Street Wall A3rt or Graffiti is one of them. Graffiti has been adding colour and creativity to the barren walls and districts of the prominent cities and rural areas in the country, since time immemorial. However today youth in India are increasingly using the graffiti culture to speak up and using this visual language that people are unfamiliar with far more constructively. They are also utilizing open and public spaces to talk about social realities, issues, opinions or to draw attention to their creativity. Each artist has his or her own speciality and style - tag, throw up, blockbuster, wild style, heaven, stencil, poster, sticker or piece.

Graffiti is being used in political campaigns, college festivals, to highlight social causes, promote grassroot artists or just to hide their poor neighbourhood and to make it look vibrant and attractive. Indian walls have been abused and used for avoidable things such as spitting, defecating, sticking bills of most wanted criminals, lost relatives and for political propaganda. However now the youth is using it as a medium of expression, decoration, attention and inspiration.
Graffiti artists have become a part of India’s heritage. Many house owners now welcome them to paint on their walls so that these are not captured by political parties. Social messages like AIDS awareness, environmental issues etc., are now getting more popularity.

The names of some of the popular artists are as creative as the art itself. Daku, yantre, Sawan, Wink, NME, Ganjit, Purswani, Pawan and more. Now that graffiti has become a profession, more and more youngsters are learning this art form. People are hiring these artists for their home and business establishments.
So, if you find a youth in the dark night of a day heading out with a spray can, you know that the walls are going to look very different in the morning!
