ノアから下る諸民族

GENESIS 10

These are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood.
これらはノアの息子たち、セム、ハム、ヤフェトの時代のことである。洪水のあと、さらに孫たちが生まれた

The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. From these the coastland peoples spread in their lands, each with his own language, by their clans, in their nations.
ヤフェトの息子は、ゴメル、マゴグ、メディア、ヤワン、トバル、メシェク、ティラスである。ゴメルの息子は、アシュケナズ、リファト、トガルマである。ヤワンの息子は、エリシャ、タルシシュ、キティム、ロダニムである。これらの息子たちから、海沿いの人々は、それぞれの言語、氏族、民族で広がっていった

こういう人物名（固有名詞）は、新共同訳をそのまま利用しました
固有名詞の読み方は、いろんな系統があるのでカタカナ表記が難しい
例えばジャパンと言ったり、ジャポンと言ったり、ヤーパンと言ったり
ニッポン、ニホン、イルボン、リーベン、とか世界中各国で違う
（そもそも日本国内でニッポンとニホンと2個あるのはなぜ？
ちなみにブリテンのことをイギリスと呼んでるのは世界で日本だけとかね

The sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan. The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. Cush fathered Nimrod; he was the first on earth to be a mighty man. He was a mighty hunter before the LORD. Therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the LORD.” The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. From that land he went into Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah, and Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, Pathrusim, Casluhim (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorim.
ハムの息子は、クシュ、エジプト、プト、カナンである。クシュの息子は、セバ、ハビラ、サブタ、ラマ、サブテカである。ラマの息子は、シェバ、デバンである。クシュはまたニムロドの父である。ニムロドは地上で最初の力強いハンターだった。なので「神の御前において、ニムロドのように強い」という言葉がある。ニムロドの王国の始まり（の町）はバベル、ウルク、アッカド、（カルネ、）みなシンアルの地にあった。ニムロドはそこからアッシリアに入り、ニネベ、レホボト・イル、カラ、レセンを建設した。エジプトはリディア、アナミム、レハビム、ナフトヒム、上エジプト（英文ではPathrusim、なぜ変換されているのか？）、カスルヒム（ここからペリシテが出た）、カフトルの父である。

カルネは、英文を見る限りアッカドに続く地名にしか見えないが、新共同訳に書いてないので、なぜ？と思って検索してみたら、「それらすべて」という意味だという説があって、たしかに新共同訳でもそのように訳してあるが、しかし、なぜ？

またPathrusimがなぜか「上エジプト」と新共同訳では訳されているが、例によってGoogleさんに聞いたら、パテロスとあった（後に出てくるかもしれない、知らんけど

さらに、ペリシテさんは英文を見ると明らかにカスルヒムさんから出てるのだが、新共同訳ではその後ろのカフトルから出たと訳されていて、キリスト教さん的にもいろいろな系統の解釈があるんだろうなー、と適当に想像してます（ここでは面倒すぎて踏み込まないが、さっきのパテロス同様、後でもし出てきたら検証したいと思います

それにしても、エジプトとかカナンとかニムロドとかバベルとかウルクとかアッカドとかアッシリアとか、歴史上非常に有名な名前がどしどし出てきましたね

ちなみに、地名はもっとも古い固有名詞とか、地名が人名になるとか、その逆とか、とにかく人名と地名と氏族名は非常に近い関係にあると思われます

Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn and Heth, and the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the clans of the Canaanites dispersed. And the territory of the Canaanites extended from Sidon in the direction of Gerar as far as Gaza, and in the direction of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. These are the sons of Ham, by their clans, their languages, their lands, and their nations.
カナンは、長男シドン、ヘト、エブス人、アモリ人、ギルガシ人、ヒビ人、アルキ人、シニ人、アルワド人、ツェマリ人、ハマト人の父である。その後カナンの人々の氏族は分かれ、領土はシドンからゲラルの方向にガザまで、そしてソドム、ゴモラ、アドマ、ツェボイムの方向へラシャまで広がった。これらは、氏族、言語、土地、民族による、ハムの子孫たちである

2024年現在、非常に有名な地名、ガザも出てくるし
知らんけど、ハマトは、発音系統では「ハマス」になるねきっとたぶん
面倒なのでいちいちGoogleさんには聞いてないが、どうだろう

あとこのあたり、息子の名前が後の氏族名になったという解釈のようだが
ここ「直訳！」を重んじる★直訳聖書としては
theのある場合に「～人」と加えた、theは集合特定的な表現だからね
Canaanites の複数形も同じような集団的な表現
またソドム、ゴモラというたしか有名な都市名も出てきた

To Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, children were born. The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. Arpachshad fathered Shelah; and Shelah fathered Eber. To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan. Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, Obal, Abimael, Sheba, Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan. The territory in which they lived extended from Mesha in the direction of Sephar to the hill country of the east. These are the sons of Shem, by their clans, their languages, their lands, and their nations.
セムもまた、エベルの子供たちの父であり、（セムは）ヤフェトの兄だった。セムの息子は、エラム、アシュル、アルパクシャド、ルド、アラムである。アラムの息子は、ウツ、フル、ゲテル、マシュである。アルパクシャドはシェラの父で、シェラはエベルの父だった。エベルには息子が2人、ひとりはペレグ（当時、土地を分けるのをパラグと言ったかららしいby新共同訳）、もうひとりがヨクタン。ヨクタンは、アルモダド、シェレフ、ハツァルマベト、イエラ、ハドラム、ウザル、ディクラ、オバル、アビマエル、シェバ、オフィル、ハビラ、ヨバブの父だった。彼らの領土はメシャからセファルの方向へ東の高原地方まで広がった。これらは、氏族、言語、土地、民族によるセムの子孫である

翻訳のことなのでわりとどうでもいいだろうけど
nationを民族、clanを氏族と訳しているのは
現状の日本語の概念の区分がそれしかないので
「直訳」としてはそうせざるをえないだけであって
非常に混乱して見えるだろうことはこれは仕方ない
（新共同訳も同じように訳しています
民族という日本語で想像するような人種的な意味ではぜんぜんなくて
本家と分家くらいの意味で別れていった
という感じと思えばだいたい合ってると思います
次は創世記第11章、有名な「バベルの塔」っぽいです！
