問題:Should minority languages  be preserved?

イントロ

Although English is a dominant language,
I think that minority language should be preserved.
I have some reasons to support my opinion.

ボディ1

The first reason is a traditional aspect.
I mean, losing a language is not only about a language, but it is also about the entire culture.
Culture is what our ancestors have cherished in this long history.
It is so arrogant to think our culture is better than the cultures in the past.
We need to have some respect on what our ancestors have built because every little thing around us is based on it. I feel like that the elimination of minor languages is the first step of destroying cultures.

ボディ2

The second reason is that it is too unfair for minority language speakers tospend much time to learn other language while major language speakers don’t have to learn minority languages.
For example, in Japan many universities think that English is more important so the English score is usually higher than Japanese test.
But while Japanese students spend much time to learn English, the students of English speakers can spend more time on other subjects like science and mathematics.
It is really unfair, and the elimination of minority languages is helping the superiority of the majority languages.

結論

Although it might be controversial , I strongly believe that the preservation of the minor language is important.

質問

・why do you think languages such as English, Chinese and Spanish are
 becoming dominant?

It is difficult to mention about one clear reason because I think that they have each different reason.
For instance, English is dominant because England was the biggest country in the past and the U.S has been a biggest country for centuries.
Spanish is dominant because Spain colonized south America and there are still a lot of speakers.
China is dominant because of the population and China’s influence on world’s economy and technologies.

・Do you think there may be some advantages to having major language that are spoken worldwide?

Yes, as I mentioned, they don’t have to learn minority languages as seriously as minority language speakers have to learn major speakers.
For example, I used to teach Japanese to Australian students but they were not serious because they understood that most of them don’t use it in the future.
Even some parents told them not to be too serious. But look at Japan.
How serious Japanese are! In Some school Eiken is necessary to enter the school even though the department is not about English.
So I think that it is really unfair.

・What can be done to protect dying languages?

The first thing is the education.
People are too unaware of the existence of minor languages, so we need to have opportunities to learn about the languages so that some of us might be interested.

・On a slightly different topic, what other aspects of culture are important to preserve?

As I said in my speech, our culture is based on what our ancestors
have built.
We cannot disrespect like our culture is better than them so
we can destroy it.
It is an arrogant attitude. We have many things to learn from our ancestors through the cultures.
