I did not know what It meant

I knew school fees needed to be paid. I knew that the lights needed to be kept on, clothes bought, food put on the table. I knew all these needed to be done, but I was young and naive, so I did not really understand what it meant for who was getting this staff.

My father left the country to seek a better life for the family. I did not understand what it meant to have separate from your wife for consecutive months. To leave your children, your friends and everything that was known / familiar / home to you for soo many years.

Did you think of us daily there, did you miss us? I am sorry I didn't. I actually was happy no one would take my peace, make me scared a just feel like I just existed. I went to boarding school at a very young age so I got soo used to not missing people. You taught me that real men do not cry, neither do they miss people. Where you right?
