昨日が八十八夜。たすきに菅の笠 Eighty-eight nights. Tasuki with Suge-no-Kasa

今年は、昨日が八十八夜。

夏も近づく八十八夜 野にも山にも若葉が茂る
あれに見えるは茶摘みぢゃないか あかねだすきに菅（すげ）の笠

This year, yesterday was 88th day of Spring.

子供のころに覚えた「茶摘み歌」。いまだに口ずさめるのが、なんとも不思議である。
お茶が好きな人間には、縁起物である新茶を飲むのが愉しみになっている。お茶も奥が深く、摘む時期や生産地の違い、また機械もみ、手もみなどで香りも味も異なってくる。さらに、淹れ方によって大きく味が変化するのもお茶を愉しむ醍醐味である。

It's a mystery that I can still sing the “tea picking song” that I learned when I was a child. 
For those who like tea, drinking fresh tea which is a lucky item is a pleasure. Tea is deep. The aroma and taste will vary depending on the time and place of picking, and the fact that the machine and the hands are chaffed. Furthermore, it is a real pleasure to enjoy tea that the taste changes greatly depending on the brewing method.

お茶の産地としては、ご存じのとおり、京都宇治、静岡などが有名どころだが、滋賀県の近江は、日本の茶文化の始まりとなった地域といわれている。
比叡山の開祖、最澄が唐より持ち帰った茶の種子を、比叡山麓の坂本の畑に播いたことが始まりのようだ。現在は、「近江茶」は県南部の土山町、信楽町、水口町が産地として育てられている。ブランド茶として全国に出荷されている。滋賀県訪ねた折は、知り合いの農家さんからいただくことがある。

As you know, the famous tea producing areas are Uji in Kyoto and Shizuoka, but Omi in Shiga prefecture is said to be the beginning of Japanese tea producing culture.
It seems that the founder of Mt. Hiei, Saicho, sown the seeds of tea brought back from Tang in China at Sakamoto field at the foot of Mt. Hiei. At present, "Omi tea" is grown in Tsuchiyama, Shigaraki and Mizuguchi in the southern part of the prefecture. It is shipped nationwide as branded tea. When I visit Shiga prefecture, I sometimes get this tea from a farmer I know.

数年前に行ったとき、滋賀県の三日月大造知事が「近江茶」の普及のために土山町を訪ねPRされていた。その時、知事自らが撮られた茶摘みの写真をお借りし事あるごとに使用させていただいている。
