平安神宮は、脈々と継がれる「日本の美」の最高峰。【日本の美Ⅱ】 Heian Shrine is the highest peak of "Japanese beauty".

平安神宮の応天門や平安京の正庁である朝堂院の中央の外拝殿(太極殿)、左の白虎楼、右の蒼龍楼などすべて左右対称になっていることは見てのとおりである。このシンメトリーの建築様式は「美」を追求しているといわれている。ヨーロッパの伝統建築でもよく見かけるが、日本でのシンメトリーの社殿は、少し離れ正面に立ち、左右の端を結ぶと二等辺三角形が生じる。この形が「美」の構造を生む要素のひとつになっている。
そして、正殿、応天門や大鳥居などすべて主要部は朱色である。神社等ではよく見かけるが、厄災や外部魔力から守るために施されている色である。この朱色が華やかさ鮮やかさをかもし出す大きな要因になっているのは言うまでもない。
平安神宮は、私が思う、歴史・伝統文化から脈々と継がれている「日本の美」の最高峰であるといっても過言ではないだろう。

As you can see, the Otenmon of Heian Jingu Shrine, the outer hall of worship (Taikyoku Hall) in the center of Chodoin which is the official office of Heiankyo, the Hatsuko Tower on the left and the Soryu Tower on the right are all symmetrical.  It is said that this symmetric architectural style pursues "beauty." As is often seen in European traditional architecture, the symmetry shrine in Japan stands a short distance from the front, connects from the left and right, and ends to form an isosceles triangle. This shape is one of the elements that create the "beauty" structure.
The main parts such as the main hall, Otenmon and Otorii are all vermilion. It is often seen in shrines, etc., but it is a color applied to protect from disasters and external magic from outsides. It goes without saying that this vermilion color is a major factor in creating a gorgeous and vivid color.
It is no exaggeration to say that Heian Jingu is the highest peak of "Japanese beauty" that I think has been handed down from history and traditional culture.
