コシノジュンコさんの「おもてなし」　は、 “驚き” を提供すること。 Junko Koshino's "hospitality" is to provide "surprise".

ちょうど2年前の今日、以前勤務していた大学の客員教授であるコシノジュンコさんの講義を学生に交じって拝聴した。

Just two years ago today, I listened to a lecture by Junko Koshino, a visiting professor at the university where I used to work, with my students.

約1時間半、コシノさんの若い時からの仕事ぶりの映像に解説を交えながらの講義だった。約半世紀にわたり国際舞台の第一線で活躍されてきたアーティストとしては話題にこと欠かない。

For about an hour and a half, the lecture was accompanied by commentary on Mrs. Koshino's video of her works since she was young. As an artist who has been active on the front lines of the international stage for about half a century, there is no shortage of topics.

パリ、ミラノ、上海、東京などでのコレクションの映像を見ながらその時の楽しかったこと、面白かったことが立て板に水のごとく溢れだす。

While watching the images of the collections in Paris, Milan, Shanghai, Tokyo, etc., the fun and interesting things at that time overflowed like water on the stand.

話の中によく出てきた「おもてなし」ということ葉は、コシノさんの人生哲学ともいえるワードである。流行語として話題に上った言葉ではあるが、コシノさんの究極のテーマのようだ。

The word "hospitality" that often appears in the story is a word that can be said to be Koshino's philosophy of life. Although it is a popular word, it seems to be Koshino's ultimate theme.

「おもてなし」というと歓待ということになるだろうが、コシノさんにとっては、歓待は"驚き"を提供すること、という。人がびっくりし、面白い、というものを創造しつくり続けることが、コシノさんにとっての「おもてなし」のようである。
そのためには、最大限の努力を惜しまない。人の"驚く顔"が見たいがために闘い続けるエネルギーが今でもほとばしっていた。

"Hospitality" would mean hospitality, but for Mrs. Koshino, hospitality is to provide "surprise." It seems to be "hospitality" for Mrs. Koshino to continue to create and create things that people are surprised and interesting.
To that end, we will spare no effort. The energy to keep fighting because I wanted to see a person's "surprised face" was still spilling out.
