A book summery 1 "My Father's Dragon"

A while ago, I read a book titled My Father's Dragon. The main character is Elmer.

One day, Elmer found a stray cat and he took it home. He fed it and took care of it, but Elmer's mother didn't like this. She was rude to the cat and took it away. Elmer said sorry to it and then they talked about many things while taking a walk.

Elmer said that he wished he could fly in the sky. The cat said it would be possible if Elmer saved a dragon in the Wild Island.
The cat once had traveled around the Wild Island and knew about the dragon. The dragon fell from a cloud onto the bank or the river. He was too young to fly very well, and besides, he had bruised one wing quite badly, so he couldn't get back to his cloud. The animals down there found him and tied a big rope around his neck and waited for the wing to get well. After the wing got well, the animals made the dragon carry things as a vehicle over the river. The cat said, if Elmer were able to rescue the dragon, it would let Elmer ride on its back and fly anywhere.

Elmer decided to help the poor dragon, and set off to the Wild Island. The cat suggested to him bring many things such as pink lollipops, a tooth brush, a comb, rubber bands and so on.

He managed to arrived at the Wild Island, but some animals were trying to attack him.

When he met a rhinoceros, it was trying drawn him into the pond. At the same time, it cried about his tusk which turned yellow. It explained that his tusk used to be pearly white when it was young. Elmer took a tooth brush from his knapsack and brushed his tusk and made it white. The rhinoceros was so pleased that he grabbed the tooth brush and began scrubbing violently, forgetting all about Elmer. So he could escape.

When he met a lion, which was upset with his messy mane. It was worried that its mother would stop the allowance when she saw its messy mane.
Then, Elmer gave his come to the lion and told it to comb his mane. By grooming, all the twigs and snarls were gone. The lion looked beautiful and it was happy. It was so busy combing its mane that it didn't knew when Elmer left.

When Elmer reached the bank of the river, he learned the dragon would be the other side of the river. So he had to cross over the river, but there were many  crocodiles which scared Elmer. He gave one of crocodiles a lollipop and he stepped on its back. And then, he fasten another lollipop to the tip of its tail with a rubber band. Then the next crocodile licked on the lollipop. Elmer stepped on its back and fasten another lollipop to its tail. He repeated this until he reached the other side of the bank. By letting them lick on a lollipop and aligning themselves in a straight line, he could pass on the river.

He finally found the dragon and cut the rope and saved it. The dragon was so happy that it flew home Elmer on its back. Elmer's dream came true!

I'm pretty sure that Elmer was a resourceful person because he used his belongings in an effective way even though the cat never told him how to use them. He was also a brave boy to save the dragon all by himself.
He didn't think anything else but finding the dragon. I admire him.
