2024/07/17「バッティングセンター」"Batting center"

多忙な仕事帰りの夕暮れ、今日も俺は繁華街の片隅にあるバッティングセンターに向かっていた。入り口の古びた看板が薄暗い街灯に照らされて、かすかに輝いている。ここは、俺にとって特別な場所だった。ボールを打ち返す感触が、日々の疲れや不満を一瞬で忘れさせてくれるのだ。

中に入ると、いつもと変わらない光景が広がっていた。打席にはすでに数人の若者が順番待ちをしている。カーン、と爽快なバッティングの音をBGMの如く耳に入れながら、俺はロッカーに荷物を入れると、空いているバッターボックスへと向かう。バットを持つと、一種の安心感を抱いた。

「今日も自己ベスト更新、狙っていくか」とつぶやいて、バッターボックスに構える。ボールが投げられる音と、バットがボールを捉える快音が響く。その瞬間、日々の雑念とストレスから一気に解放される。

打ち終わった後、待機室の小さなベンチに腰掛けた。周囲を見渡すと、若者たちが楽しそうに会話をしているのが目に入る。若い頃は、自分もこんな風に無邪気に笑っていたのだろうか、と一人物思いにふける。

帰り道、少しだけ心が軽くなっていた。夜風が心地よく、優しく顔をさすっていく。明日もまた同じように、日常の喧騒に戻るだろう。しかし、バッティングセンターがある限り、俺の心はリフレッシュして一生懸命やっていけると、小さな希望なような思いが心に宿っていた。

The evening was waning as I headed towards the batting center tucked away in a corner of the bustling downtown after a busy day at work. The old sign at the entrance glowed faintly under the dim streetlights. This place held a special significance for me. The sensation of hitting the ball allowed me to momentarily forget the fatigue and frustrations of daily life.

Upon entering, I was greeted by the usual scene. A few young people were already waiting their turn at the batting cages. As the satisfying sound of bats striking balls filled the air like background music, I stowed my belongings in a locker and headed to an available batter's box. Holding the bat gave me a sense of reassurance.

"Let's aim to break my personal best today," I muttered, taking my stance in the batter's box. The sound of the ball being pitched and the bat striking it resonated, instantly freeing me from my daily worries and stress.

After finishing my session, I sat on a small bench in the waiting room. Looking around, I noticed the young people chatting happily. I wondered if I had ever laughed so innocently in my youth, lost in my own thoughts.

On the way home, my heart felt a little lighter. The night breeze was pleasant, gently caressing my face. Tomorrow, I would return to the daily grind as usual. However, as long as the batting center was there, I felt a small hope that my heart would be refreshed, allowing me to keep giving my best effort.
