The World where Books Take Me
< COLUMN. vol.17>
(English and Japanese ver.)
I have a dream. One day, I have own special seat in a room which is like a small library are full of an enormous amount books on walls.
I love reading so much ever since I was old enough to understand and I have a massive amount of books that cannot even fit in shelves at home. I used to be a cute kid who begged mom to read my favourite stories every night. But I realised that I have been letting go of reading time as I grow up. I even had years when I read few books.
The time has passed while I haven’t read books I should and want to, so I tried to make my time for it. I decided to bring books at least one when I go on trip and I attempted to cherish times when I face with books. Nonetheless, I felt like I made my excuses in order to avoid reading — because I am busy.
No, that’s a lie. The saying “I don’t have time for it ” is total bullshit.
I do have time. I am just aimlessly scrolling Instagram while the sand of hourglass trickles down. There are plenty books in the world like I could not read them all even if I could spent my whole life on trying to read them. I am exhausted to look at type even. I turn a blind eye to books have been piling up unread on floors. And that clicked me. If I continue to do this, I probably leave behind most of books that I’ve always wanted to and only times will just go by.
That’s why I changed how I use my time. I turned times when I vaguely looked at a phone into times for reading. As one hour a day, 365 hours a year. If it took three hours to finish one book, I would be able to read 121 books for a year. Call to mind, a-year-later-me will think, know and feel something for 121 books more than who I am now, which realised me reading books created abundance life, reminded me of how much I love to read and brought me back to the days I fall in love with books. Now, I can say that I truely enjoy reading again.
Since the world where I can freely exploring has been fantasy, I imagine the places where I want to go after covid ends, have a very different life in imagination as if I am a main character in books or through back to my life. Even though I can’t physically travel, it's not that bad to enjoy going around the world in my head.
“It’s been a few weeks since my room became my whole world. Even though I am physically in a house, I don’t want to close in imagination” This passage in a column resonated with me and I hoped I want to be conjured a spell of books. Books can take us anywhere in the world beyond space and time. Power of books are magical.
Well, what should I read ?
Make something to drink to taste to feelings or genre of books, play small music from my reading jam and prepare a special seat for myself and, let’s be taken to the unknown world today too.
