消えそうな日本語10選 / 10 Japanese terms that have disappeared

昔はよく使っていたけど、いつの間にか使われなくなった日本語…
ダイバシティとかポリティカルコネクトスとか観点から、使うのがマズイ日本語…
今回はそんな日本語を10個選んでみました。
中には「そんな単語も！？」というものもあるかもしれません。

表現ポイント

① be in love with ～に夢中
 I’m in love with this actress!
ボクはこの女優さんに夢中なの！

② be absorbed in ～に熱中
What are you so absorbed in what you’re watching?
何をそんなに熱心に見ているの？

③ star 出演する
My favorite actress is starring in it!
ボクの大好きな女優さんが出演してるの！

④ preconceived notion  先入観
I think that because people had a preconceived notion that doctors were usually men and nurses were usually women
医者は男性、看護師は女性みたいな先入観があったからだと思うんだよね

⑤  exaggeration　過言
It is not an exaggeration to say that the pedigree has great significance.
血統にこそ大きな意味があると言っても過言ではありません。

⑥ eugenics 優生思想
Because it leads to a pro-eugenics mindset. It is used to discriminate. 
なぜならそれはかつて差別を生んだ優生思想につながるからです。

⑦ vulgar 下品な
I totally agree with this word change, as this is too vulgar or improper. 
私はこの言葉の変更に大賛成よ！だってあまりに下品で不適切だもの

⑧ think of 思いつく/考えつく
Can you think of any occupations that have 屋(ya) in them?
「屋」が付く職業が思いつく？

⑨ fledged 独立した
That's because it has a negative connotation of "not a full-fledged person" in the sense of what half means. 　
なぜならハーフという言葉には「一人前ではない人」というネガティブなイメージがあるからです

⑩ How smart of you! おりこうさんだね！

⑪ yearn 憧れのIt refers to a place people yearn to visit relating to their fields of interest.それは、人々が興味のある分野に関連して訪れたい場所を指します。

⑫ stand for ～を意味する
外人 as a word: 人 stands for "person" of  外 for "outside"

⑭ demeaning 侮辱的な
It's an obviously demeaning word.
これは明らかに侮辱的な言葉だね

⑮ long way 長い道のり
We’ve still got a long ways to go in our gender gap issues and in the animal protection laws.
ジェンダーギャップの問題とか動物保護の整備なんかでは、まだ長い道のりがあります。

⑯ wisdom found 叡智
There’s wisdom found in the animal kingdom. We have no wars.
動物の世界には叡智がある。ボクたちは戦争をしないからね。
