October 14, 2023: Rum Tum Tugger （ラム・タム・タガー）
The other day, I came across a poem while studying English grammar in English. It was ‘Rum Dum Tugger’ by T.S. Eliot, a British poet. It had only seven lines and not the whole of the poem. It describes, with a cat, how greedy we are, and struck a deep chord in my heart.
The poem is the basis of the famous musical Cats, and I am tempted to see it.
I am a fan of musicals, but I never went to see it when it was in a boom in Japan. It was so popular that I lost interest in it. Now it is time to go to see it.
先日、英書で英文法を勉強していたとき、詩に出会いました。T.S.エリオットの「ラム・タム・タガー」という詩です。その詩の一節で、たった7行のものでした。でも、猫になぞらえて、人間の強欲さを詩っています。身につまされる思いです。
この詩は、ミュージカル「キャッツ」の原作で、見に行きたくなりました。
ミュージカルは好きですが、キャッツが日本でブームだった頃は、人気が出すぎて、見に行く気になりませんでした。今回こそ見に行きます
