June 12, 2023: Express Mail Service, Samples, Madagascar, China（国際郵便、サンプル、中国、マダガスカル）

When I was a salesman for overseas markets, I used to send a lot of samples to the customers. I used to send them by Express Mail Service or couriers like DHL. I never had any problem in sending them from Japan. I sent the samples many times even when I worked at home. In that case, I had a factory send them to my home first. After my receipt of them, I called the nearest post office to come to my home to pick them up. Within a few hours from the call, a post office worker came to my house. So I gave them to him and told him where to send them. At the same time, I paid the postage there, of course. That was all I had to send them abroad. I sent them mainly to the United States, Europe and the Middle East. But sometimes, I also sent them to Madagascar and Ghana in Africa and to Ukraine.
I was lucky to have been able to send them from Japan with no problem. When I tried to send samples from China, however, I had a terrible experience. It was when I asked a factory in China to send samples to Madagascar in African by the Express Mail Service. One of the factory workers took them to the nearest post office, but the post office refused to accept them. This was because it had never sent goods to Madagascar before. They were not sure that they could deliver it to Madagascar. When I got the report from the factory, I was too shocked to say anything. The samples were not dangerous items. In fact, they were the ones which were popular and available in every convenience store in Japan. Nevertheless, the Chinese post office strongly refused to accept it. So I gave up sending the samples to Madagascar directly from China. Instead, I had the factory send them to my home in Japan and sent them to Madagascar from Japan by Express Mail Service. In the end, the samples arrived safely in Madagascar. But it was a waste of time and money.

　海外営業の仕事をしていた時は、海外のお客さんにサンプルをよく送りました。サンプルを送るときは、ＤＨＬなどのクーリエで送るか国際郵便で送っていました。日本から送る場合は、まったく問題ありません。在宅勤務時も、国際郵便でサンプルを海外に何度も送りました。その場合は、まず、サンプルを工場から自宅に郵送してもらいます。サンプルが到着すると、郵便局に電話し、国際郵便の引き取りを依頼すると、引き取りに来てもらえます。担当者にサンプルを渡して、料金を支払いえば終わりです。サンプルは、欧米に留まらず、中近東にも送りました。また、アフリカのマダガスカルやガーナへ、そしてウクライナにも送ったこともあります。
　日本からサンプル送っていた時は、幸いにものなんの問題もありませんでした。でも、中国からサンプルを送ろうとしてひどい目に遭いました。中国の工場にサンプルを国際郵便でアフリカのマダガスカルに送るよう依頼した時でした。中国の工場のスタッフがサンプルを郵便局に持ち込んだところ、受け取りを拒否されたのです。その理由は、マダガスカルに送ったことがないからというものでした。マダガスカルに無事に届ける自信がないらしいです。それを聞いて、開いた口が塞がりませんでした。送ろうとしたものは危険物ではありません。日本ではコンビニでよく売られている商品です。にもかかわらず、受付を拒否されました。仕方ないので、サンプルを中国から日本に郵送して、日本からマダガスカルに送りました。最終的には、サンプルは無事マダガスカルに届きましたが、時間を金を無駄にしました。
