March 10, 2024: Girl’s Day on March 3 （３月3日、桃の節句）

A week ago, my wife and I were invited by my daughter to a party to celebrate the first Girl’s Day of her daughter on 3 March. We were glad to have received the invitation. But it was only my wife that joined the party. I, myself, f declined to attend it as my leg had not yet fully recovered. So my wife went alone to the party. But she had helped her daughter a lot to prepare for the party. She had cooked chirashi sushi and nibbles at home and brought them to the party. She seemed to enjoy the party and was happy to see her grandchild again. There were also Hina dolls at the party as a custom in Japan. The doll set, bought just before the party, consisted of two dolls like the ones we had for our daughter, but the dolls were not as big as they used to be. They were compact and took up no extra space in the room. As far as I saw them in the picture, they were pretty and fitted for the grandchild.
The party also had another purpose: to show the new flat to their parents. The daughter and her husband bought and only moved into the flat a month ago. The flat is much bigger than the previous one, enabling the husband to secure his room. It also allows the baby to enjoy her new life as it gives her enough space to play alone on the floor. None of them have to disturb each other anymore. Overall, the party seemed very enjoyable, and my wife came home with an amused smile. There was a surprise when I heard about the conversation during the party. There seem to be a lot of car-sharing services around the flat. It means that now is the time to share cars and not buy them. In particular, it might be the right choice for the residents in a flat to use the service. Most apartments in Japan do not have enough car parking spaces for all the rooms. The residents have to draw a lot to get the space, which seems unfair in some respects. Then, it may be better off with the car-sharing services instead of buying a car.

　一週間前、娘から3月3日に孫の初節句を祝うパーティーをするので来るよう招待されました。招待はうれしかったのですが、パーティーに参加したのは妻だけでした。ボクは、足がまだ完全に回復していなかったので、辞退しました。そこで、妻一人でパーティーに行きました。でも、その前に、妻はパーティーの準備をずいぶん手伝っていました。家でちらし寿司やおつまみを作って持っていきました。パーティーは楽しかったようです。また、孫に再会でき喜んでいました。パーティーには、日本の習慣である雛人形が飾ってありました。
　パーティーの直前に買ったらしいです。娘に買ったものと同じように2体のおひなさまでしたが、昔のものほど大きくはなかったです。コンパクトで、余計なスペースを取らないサイズでした。写真で見る限り、孫にぴったりで、かわいらしい雛人形でした。
このパーティーには、別の目的もありました。娘の新しいマンションを母親と夫の両親に見せるためです。娘夫婦がこのマンションを買って、引っ越してきたのはわずか1カ月前のことです。前よりずっと広くなり、ご主人も自分の部屋を確保できるようになりました。また、孫も一人で床で遊ぶのに十分なスペースができ、新生活を楽しんでいるようです。互いに迷惑をかけることはなくなったようです。全体的に、パーティーはとても楽しかったようで、妻は楽しそうな笑顔で帰ってきました。
　パーティー中の会話を聞いて驚いたことがありました。マンションの周辺にはカーシェアリング・サービスがたくさんあるようです。今は車を買わずにシェアする時代だということでしょう。 特に、マンションの住人は、このサービスを利用するのは正解かもしれません。日本のほとんどのマンションには、全室分の駐車スペースがありません。居住者はスペースを確保するために抽選に当たらねばならず、不公平感があります。それなら、車を購入するのではなく、カーシェアリング・サービスを利用した方がいいのかもしれません。
