June 2, 2024: School Trip to Kyushu（九州への修学旅行）

I read articles by tohrudc-san on the blog site 'note'. They reminded me of one of my school trips. It was the one to Kyushu Island in my high school. After arriving on the island, I first went to a small island, Aoshima, in the Miyazaki area. Then, I went to see a volcano, Sakurajima, in the southern part of Kyushu. After that, I moved to the northwest of Kyushu by bus. On the way to the northwest area, I was told that I would cross the attractive five bridges, Amaakusa Gokyo. I was really looking forward to crossing them. But when I noticed, I had already crossed them. I had no memory of crossing them. Nor had I seen anything from the top of them. For some reason, I fell asleep while I was crossing the bridges. It was a great disappointment and one of my big mistakes on the trip. I still regret missing the beautiful landscapes from the top of the bridges.
Looking back on the trip, I recalled making another blunder. It was a month after I came back from the trip that I was aware of it. About one or two weeks before I joined the trip, I had had the rubella. I got a high fever but struggled hard to get rid of it. Then, I was lucky to get rid of it and join the trip in good condition. So, I enjoyed the trip overall, although I failed to feel and see crossing the bridges. However, while enjoying the trip, I gave my rubella to my classmates. I heard that some of my classmates had it after the trip. It was clear that I was the source of the outbreak.

　noteでtohrudcさんの記事を読みました。この記事で高校時代の修学旅行を思い出しました。旅行先は九州でした。九州に着いて、まず宮崎の青島に行きました。その後、南の桜島に行きました。それから、バスで九州の北西部に向かいました。この途中で、人気の天草五橋を渡ることがわかりました。この橋を渡るのがとても楽しみでした。でも、気がつくとすでに渡り終えていたのです。渡った記憶もなければ、橋の上から何も見なかったのです。なんと、橋を渡っている間、眠っていたのです。がっかりすると同時に、この旅での最大の失敗のひとつでした。橋の上からの美しい風景を見逃したことを今でも後悔しています。
　旅を振り返ると、もうひとつの失敗を思い出しました。それが分かったのは、旅行から帰ってきてから1カ月後のことでした。旅行の１、2週間ほど前にボクは風疹にかかったのです。高熱が出ましたが、必死に治しました。そしたら、運よく熱も下がり、体調も良くなり旅行に参加できました。というわけで、天草五橋を渡ることを体感したり、見たりはできませんでしたが、全体としては楽しい旅でした。でも、旅行を楽しんでいる間に、クラスメートに風疹をうつしていたのです。旅行の後、何人かのクラスメートが風疹にかかったと聞きました。ボクが風疹の感染源であることは明らかでした。
