September 27, 2023: Orix Baffaloes, Three Straight Wins （オリックスバッファローズ、３連覇）
The Orix Buffaloes, a professional baseball team, won the league championship for the third year in a row. And they won the championship with their overwhelming power. I am very happy about that. Before the season started, I was concerned about the team because the team had a big change. Until the last season, the team had a slugger, Masataka Yoshida, but he left the team for the MLB. This season, they got another slugger, Tomoya Mori, but I did not expect him to be as good as Yoshida. But I was wrong. Mori did as well as Yoshida. The young players did much better than I expected, too. On top of all that, I must not forget how well their manager, Satoshi Nakajima, managed the team.
I should have been much happier about the win than the last year as it was their third win in a row. But I could not celebrate the win as much as I had expected. I have to say to the team, ‘sorry about it'. This is because the Hanshin Tigers, a team in another league, won the league championship for the first time in 18 years. When the Tigers won it, I was so overjoyed that I used up all my joy. Furthermore, the Buffaloes were so quick to win the championship that I had no time to recharge my joy. Once again, I apologize that I could not celebrate their win as much as I did when the Tigers won.
Looking back, it is a great achievement for the Buffaloes to win the championship for three years in a row. It was the first achievement since they had won the championship for four years in a row in the 1970s. The team has had a lot of good managers. Among them is Toshiharu Ueda, who in my opinion, was the best manager. He managed the team for about 20 years and won the championship five times. Even when he missed out on the title, he always kept the team in second or third place. But now, he would be replaced by Satoshi Nakajima.
オリックスバッファローズが、3年連続のリーグ優勝を果たしました。しかも、圧倒的な強さで優勝し、大変うれしいです。シーズンが始まる前は、チームに大きな変化があったため、不安でした。昨年までいたスラッガーの吉田正尚選手が大リーグに移籍したためです。今シーズンは、別のスラッガーの森友哉選手が加わりましたが、吉田選手ほど活躍できないと思っていました。でも、間違っていました。森選手は吉田選手とそん色がないくらい活躍しました。そして、若手も活躍しました。そして、何よりも、中島監督の見事な采配を忘れてはなりません。
本来なら、3連覇を成し遂げたのだから、昨年以上にうれしいはずなのです。でも、なぜか、昨年ほどうれしさがこみ上げてきません。
オリックスの皆さんには、「ごめん」と謝らなければなりません。阪神の18年ぶりの優勝で喜びが爆発し、喜びのエネルギーが切れてしまったようです。また、オリックスの優勝が早すぎて、喜びのエネルギーを再充電する時間がありませんでした。この点については、改めて、お詫びします。
振り返ると、バッファローズの3連覇は偉業です。1970年代に4連覇を果たして以来の偉業です。オリックスには数々の名将がいました。中でも、忘れられないのが、上田利治監督です。ボクの中では最高監督でした。20年間、監督をされ、その内リーグ優勝が5回です。また、優勝は逃したものの常に上位でした。でも、中島監督が最高の名将になりそうです。
