Amazonでレビーしたくても出来ないものです（なぜか受け付けてもらえない）

As high society's social calendar opens up and the Season draws to a

1.セバスチャンとシエルと英語を学ぼう！

英語の学習をするにあたって大事なこと.
私の意見はズバリ、
「英語への抵抗感をなくすこと」
そして
「英語で楽しむこと」
です。

私のような多くの日本人が英語学習を始めるためには、まず、英語への抵抗感をなくすこと、できれば英語を楽しめるようになることが、最初に必要だと考えており、それには、エンタメで英語に触れることが、おすすめです。

具体的には、歌、映画、漫画です。

現在、日本の漫画は、多くの言語に翻訳されています。
漫画好きでしたら、持っていて内容を知っている漫画で英語に訳されているものを逆に輸入して、英語に触れていくのが、非常におすすめです。

その一つが、こちら、黒執事の英語バージョンになります。

元々黒執事は、イギリスが舞台の漫画なので、本来はこうやって会話をしていたのかと想像すると、読むモチベーションも上がります。

さあ、セバスチャンとシエルと一緒に英語を学びましょう！

14巻15巻16巻17巻18巻と今までアニメに合わせて寄宿学校編を紹介してきましたが、次回の緑の魔女に備えて今までの黒執事を復習していこうと思います。
なので1巻からご紹介を再開し、今回2巻になりました。

この巻に出てきた印象深いセリフを、日本語と英語の比較でいくつかご紹介したいと思います。
順番は変えてあります。

・シエルが葬儀屋に

Were I to avenge them, the dead still would not come back to life…
much less be able to enjoy the sweet taste of revenge.
Calling it 'vengeance' or a 'battle of revenge' is just glossing over the truth.
Such utterances amount to nothing more than the selfishness of the survivors, after all…
a luxury of the living, wouldn't you say?
…I..did not return to Phantomhive for the sake of the previous head.
I returned for my self.

上記のグレルの発言に関しての巻末の解説です

"Grelle too seems to be fond of puns. In Japanese, he says, 'Kore demo shitduji DEATH!' DEATH in Japanese is a homophone for desu, a linking verb that usually means 'to be'"

ちなみに、セバスチャンのことをグレルは、Sebastian darlingと呼んでいます。それについての解説がこちら。

”Sebastian darling/Sebastian
　In the Japanese edition, Grelle uses "Sebas-chan" as his nickname for Sebastian. This is essentially a homophone for the Phatomhive butler's name, but the way it's written shows that Grelle is shortening Sebastian's given name and adding -chan to it. -chan is a diminutive honorific used for little girls and cute persons or creatures of either gender that indicates familiarity.
