前回は、TOEICリーディングのPart 5「品詞」問題を1問10秒以内に解くノウハウの概要を説明しました。

続いて、2つ目の種類である「動詞」問題のテクニックをご紹介したいと思います！

2. 動詞の問題

問題の見分け方：

選択肢に動詞の異なる形が複数入っている

• 現在形

• 過去形

• 未来形

• 不定詞 (to〜)

• 動名詞 (ing〜)

• 受動態

例題）
A new credit card ——- to your home on the 10th of this month, a week ahead of the current card’s expiration.
(A) is sending
(B) have been sent
(C) are to send
(D) will be sent

解答のテクニック

見る観点は主に４つです：

1. 時を表す言葉があるか

2. 主語は何か

3. 直後に名詞があるか

4. 以下の動詞が前にあるか suggest, consider, keep, include, finish, avoid, miss, deny, justify

順を追って説明します。

1.時を表す言葉があるか

過去/現在/未来かを素早く判断します。
上の例題でいくと、「the 10th of this month」（未来形）が該当します。
これで、(C) are to send と (D) will be sentの2択に絞り込めます。

2.主語は何か

主語を見つけ、3人称単数か否かをチェックします。 また、 ⇨主語がモノである：受動態 ⇨主語がヒトである：能動態 ⇨主語がない：命令形
と判断します。
上の例題でいくと、主語は「A new credit card」となっているので、受動態が妥当ですね。
よって正解は、未来形＋受動態の**(D) will be sent**であることがわかります。

3.直後に名詞があるか

直後に名詞があるときは、受動態を使いません。

4.以下の言葉があるか suggest, consider, keep, include, finish, avoid, miss, deny, justify

これらが空欄の前にきたら、必ず動名詞を選びます。
基本的に覚えることはこれだけです。
もし上記のいずれも当てはまらない場合は、文の意味をざっくり捉えて、適切な動詞の形を選びましょう。

演習問題：

1. Next month the state government will ——- new procedures for the disposal of industrial waste.
   (A) be implemented
   (B) implementing
   (C) implemented
   (D) implement
   

2. If you have a color preference, clearly ——- your choice when filling out the order form.
   (A) indicating
   (B) to indicate
   (C) indicate
   (D) indicated
   

3. By the end of this year, Mr. Downey ——- the construction of over 30 major buildings in Seattle alone.
   (A) has supervised
   (B) will have supervised
   (C) had been supervised
   (D) is supervising
   

4. An independent advisor has suggested ——- all current delivery vehicles with battery-powered models.
   (A) replacing
   (B) replacement
   (C) to replace
   (D) replace

解答・解説：

1. will ——- new proceduresに注目します。 willが前にきているので、動詞の原型が後に来ます。つまり(A)か(D)であることがわかります。 空欄の後が名詞「new procedures」になっているので、受動態(A)を選ばないことがわかります。 よって解答は(D) implementです。

2. 「if」構文になっているのと、直後に主語がないことがポイントです。 主語がないときは基本的に命令形となるので、(C) indicateが答えとなります。

3. By the end of this yearに注目します。 「今年末までに」という意味なので、時制は未来です。 よって解答は唯一の未来形となる**(B) will have supervised**となります。

4. 空欄の前にsuggestedがきているので、動名詞の**(A) replacing**が正解となります。
