UI / UX Journey in Tokyo: Intro

Hey! So I have decided to start this blog to share my experience in UI / UX!

I'm Jessica, a Dutch-Indonesian, did my Master's Degree in Arts in London, United Kingdom.I've been working in various design scenes for quite some years —Each country and city has its own charms. I have worked in Paris, London, and Singapore doing art and design directions — understanding the working culture and meeting wonderful professionals, it has been amazing. And now, Tokyo is my current home. I'm currently working as a UI / UX Designer in one of the best Health-Tech startups in Japan: BackTech Inc.

Working in BackTech Inc, a Health-Tech startup with a life-changing product named "Pocket Therapist" web and mobile application for stiff shoulders and back pain online consultation service opens up my mind. Although I have done some UI projects before — But what I cared about was the sake of its visual and current trends — I didn't really think about how users really feel about the experience towards the products, like whether if it's user-friendly enough for them?

In our product development process, We have to interview some users, hear their thoughts, and getting inputs from them gives us a “boost” on how can we make a better product that they LOVE. Then I realise that I have been missing one thing — To create the best product, providing users with a good visual is not enough. We have to think about our users. Our product is all about them. If we want to give them solutions, We have to see from their point of view.

The next step after making them loving our product is swapping the word “product” as a “habit” for our users. And I am aiming for that!

My journey on UI / UX has been very interesting, and I'm learning A LOT (I still am!) I would love to share my experience and I hope this blog will help you on your UI / UX career. You are not alone, we are doing this together!

Let the journey begin! Stay tuned for the next post!
