想い出のグリーングラス、それは、執行を朝に控えた死刑囚が、最期に見た懐かしい故郷の夢だ。
まばゆいほど美しい故郷の風景と、優しく、そして、あたたかい笑顔で迎えてくれる家族や恋人・・

その由来は、テネシー州のナッシュビルを中心に活動をしていたカーリー・プットマン(Claude ‘Curly’ Putman Jr）が、1965年に発表した”思い出のグリーングラス”（Green, Green Grass Of Home)、それは、まず、ポーター・ワゴナー(Porter Wagoner)でヒットした。そして、イギリスで、トム・ジョーンズ(Tom Jpnes)がカヴァーしたものが、世界的にヒットして誰しも知る、曲となる。そのトム・ジョーンズの語りは、誰しも印象に残るだろう。

（註）国内では、山上路夫氏の日本語歌詞による、最後のフレーズが飛ばされたものが森山良子氏により望郷的なメルヘンチックな曲としてヒットした。これは、カーリー・プットマンの時代のものとは、その本質が異なる。
