It's different from being an expat where one expects the company to take care of them.

I worked at a Japanese manufacturer doing sales for 6 years in Japan. After that I was posted to Singapore for 2.5 years. The first year I was covering Japanese companies in Singapore. And then for the remainder of the time I covered the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. When I was covering Japanese companies I was in charge of new client acquisition and existing client support. And then when I was covering APAC I focused on supporting existing clients.

After that I returned to the Tokyo office. However I really wanted to return to Singapore so I started looking for jobs and eventually I landed myself a job at a Singapore company. The process took roughly 3 months. Currently I'm at a cybersecurity firm and I'm in charge of selling to the Japanese market.
