横田南嶺老師揮毫、坂村真民さんの詩です。

Two poems of this month, May 2024, composed by Sakamura Shinmin, on display at Engaku-ji Temple in Kamakura City.
1.
あせるな
いそぐな
朴の木のように
ゆっくりと
葉を出し
花を咲かせ
天に向かって
おのれを示せ
Do not be vexed or impetuous.
Be like a magnolia tree,
leisurely unfolding leaves and blossoms at your own pace,
extending yourself toward the sky,
and divulging your true self.
2.
一茎の草でも
大地に坐して
花を咲かすのだ
友よ
われわれも
この草に学び
自分の花を咲かせよう
Even a single stem of any of various grass plants,
sitting on the ground, puts forth its own flowers.
Now, my dear friends, let’s make efforts for our own flowers to bloom
by embracing what those grass plants do
in accordance with Nature’s grand design.
